degenerated
I am having connectivity problems, in that it appears the required ports are not open. I have windows XP sp2, netgear MR814 802.11b router and was using netgear MA111 802.11b usb adapter until i started having problems with it (trying to get adapter to connect on start up could be a nightmare). I changed the adapter to a Peak mini w/less LAN adapter usb 2.0 802.11b/g . whilst my internet browsing speed is a lot faster i am now getting the red exclamation mark on utorrent, i have checked the ports and according to the utorrent link, the ports are not open. I have ensured that these are open both on the router set up page and firewall (zone alarm pro). This was not an issue when using the netgear adapter so i assume it is a problem with the Peak adapter. is anyone aware of a compatability issue or is there something i can do to rectify this annoying problem.many thanks in advance. Switeck
Clean out old block/allow entries in Zone Alarm. Also, there may be a problem with your USB connectivity...so now it won't matter what kind of USB-anything you use. Your USB connection may be overloaded voltage-wise or bandwidth-wise. Is it defaulting to USB v1.1 which is MUCH slower?
degenerated
Thanks for the response, i have gone back to the netgear usb and seem to have resolved some of the issues i had. The port problem is non existent when i use it so i will persevere. The point you make regarding USB reverting to 1.1 is interesting and may account for slow downloads, how would one go about checking if this is indeed the case and if so how can it be rectified?cheers. Switeck
It might be a setting you can access under system properties for the USB ports.Barring that, try to find more info from the hardware/driver maker/s.
