"Super-Nasty Out Of Patience" mode includes options to:

· Seek out and format the hard drive of the person that seeds a torrent with 50 RAR files in it (The "Die Die Die" option)

· Format the hard drive of anyone that tries to create a torrent with RAR files in it (The "Natural Selection" option, also known as the "Get Out Of My Gene Pool" option)

· Order a hitman online for the guy seeding a 4GB file with a dialup modem (The "Thanks for playing!" option)

· Send gigs of horse pr0n to anyone seeding a cam with Korean subtitles labeled as a "US-DVDRIP" (The "oops, did I hit SEND?" option)

· Order a dozen she-male strippers for the person that seeds MP3s that aren't labeled with at least ID3, if not APE (The "take your time and do it right" option)

Did I miss anything?

I just figure we could use a little levity here, what with all the whining and the flaming. Everyone is always asking and not giving back, so I figured I'd give back a little humor. I also figured that each of the items on that list are something that everyone here has groaned about at one time or another. I'm sorry you're in a bad mood. Go buy a puppy or something.

I know with winrar compared to winzip, rar puts the files in their own folder automatically when extracting. zip dont. Plus u can set rar to open zip files. Unless they made updates to their program i missed, winzip cant open winrar files. I havent really tried 7zip b4.

They post it as zip/rar/etc because it typically comes from usenet, and sometimes it saves space anyway. it's also easier to guarantee that the files are the original and correct ones when you have it as a rar or zip, since they won't extract if they're corrupted.

in all honesty you just sound like a spoiled brat, since no one has any reason to post anything at all for you for free

I call shenanigans. Let's go over the alleged reasons to use multiple RAR files (R00, R01, R02, etc). · Compression: Sure, I'll accept this. But why would you use multiple RAR files? Why not one big one?

· Organization: Maybe. If you have 10,000 files that you need to distribute, an archive makes sense. But RAR? Why not a tgz? Or an ISO? And again, why multiple RAR files?

· Multiple Distribution Methods: Again, maybe. I can see the case where you got 90% of the RARs from Usenet or IRC and didn't have enough PARs to recover, so you turn to BitTorrent. And maybe you use Usenet first because you get hella good rates from your local Usenet server. Sure, I can see that. But what percentage of the population does this serve? I can't imagine more than a handful of people per torrent would be helped by this. Contrast this with the contribution to the heat death of the universe that is done by 1000 other users having to unRAR the file.

· Mistakes Fixed Easier: Nope, sorry, I don't buy it. Test your stuff before you distribute it. Jeez. It's that simple.

· Space Restrictions: Nope. I figure it's much more likely that Joe User will have limited space than the guy who is distributing stuff 24/7.

· Time: Certainly not. It takes, what, 30 seconds to unzip most files and 5 minutes for the biggest ones? Again, one person is trading their time for that of everyone else on the swarm. And really, is something going to be less "0-day" because it's 5 minutes older?Did I miss any?

volumes and single files are exactly the same to the end user, it's not like you open up every volume and hit extract. I don't see what's the complaint for that.

also, it might not be YOUR mistake, it might be a rar fix that's made by the release group for the original file.

RAR is a much better format than zip, tar, gzip, etc. the only format better than it is 7z, and only if you have time to compress with 7z--it's very very slow.

RAR files can compress more than 3000% (yes, three 0s) over some other zip formats. The files come out much smaller for downloads. Also, the regestered WinRar program can fix and repair broken files. It will look for the missing data, and seek out a way to patch over it. With video files, it will usualy just cut the missing data out and reform the video. You may get a jump, or a line, at some point, but after waiting for a 15 to 20 GB video to download, I'd rather have an RAR file, to fix the missing 2 or 3 megs out of it, and have a watchable video, vs a 15 GB zip that is un fixable.

There are hundreds of patches and serials out there, if you want to be cheep, but help support the torrent world, and pay the small fee for winrar.
