I was interested to read a post where it said a static IP was not necessery where only one PC is conected

While i can config port forward

as soon as i save and reboot the Router i am asinged a new IP

i have a D-Link 4 port 504G

the router is 10.1.1.1 +2+3+4 default depending on which DSL conection i use

while the port forward shows as enterd and configured what use is it when a new IP is allocated ??

am i corect entering the assigned IP or should i be using the router IP ??

help would be appreciated as Static IPs are only available to registerd bussineses in Australia not home users

This is wrong.

The static IP is still needed because of how the router works.

10.x.x.x IPs are NAT IPs

This is for public IPs, not NAT IPs.

The static IP we are talking about is the IP your computer has in your network. Not the IP the router as on the internet.

Usually a Router gives you an IP, and in most cases you will keep that IP for a long time, even if you reboot. However there is no guarantee. The router may for various reasons suddenly decide to give you another IP. When you port map you map a port to your computers IP. If you get another IP that portmap won't work anymore.
