DreadWingKnight Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 I was interested to read a post where it said a static IP was not necessery where only one PC is conectedThis is wrong. The static IP is still needed because of how the router works.10.x.x.x IPs are NAT IPshelp would be appreciated as Static IPs are only available to registerd bussineses in Australia not home usersThis is for public IPs, not NAT IPs.
Lord Alderaan Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 The static IP we are talking about is the IP your computer has in your network. Not the IP the router as on the internet.Usually a Router gives you an IP, and in most cases you will keep that IP for a long time, even if you reboot. However there is no guarantee. The router may for various reasons suddenly decide to give you another IP. When you port map you map a port to your computers IP. If you get another IP that portmap won't work anymore.
