kxp Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 This has probably gone around here a lot but searching for keywords like "mobile" or "symbian" didn't come up with anything besides i got to know that the programmers don't like java (in which i totally agree with) and that WebUI currently doesn't support most of HTML browsers integrated with phones. Ofcourse many of you like and probably use or have used the WebUI feature that is still in beta (as far as i know) but many would like it even more if there would be a mobile client to control uTorrent on your PC. Ok, enaugh of the introduction, this is what i propose: uTorrent mobile for Symbian (written in C++) with features like adding torrents (uploading from mobile / link to an online torrent), stopping, resuming them, download/upload status and a possibility to shut down your pc instantly or after completing torrents. This request has come up because I use uTorrent a lot but it just so happens that I can't spend a that time at home, so i bought a bit more effective mobile phone (Nokia E70) which would have nice connectivity and good office support. It has symbian 9.1 which can support a variety of applications. Why coudln't one of them be uTorrent mobile client? And i'm sorry for posting this if you don't even plan anything like that. I just wanted to get it off my chest, whatever the answer would be. Still, i hope that this will get your attention and you'll think about it
MoJo Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 There already is a symbian based bittorrent client called SymTorrrent ... it runs beautifully on my Nokia E61i. To try it out go over to the following site:http://www.aut.bme.hu/portal/SymTorrent.aspx?lang=en --> Main SymTorrent Sitehttp://symforum.jconserv.net/index.php --> Main Application ForumsWhat although could be better if the web interface had native support for the Symbian Browser aswell, this way mobiles can easily use it.
Firon Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 So, if I'm understanding this correctly, you want a WebUI coded in C++ for Symbian? If you have the coding skills, you can do it yourself. All the current WebUI does is use an (currently incomplete) API to communicate with µTorrent.
MoJo Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 No, thats not what I meant. The original poster wanted the whole of uTorrent recoded for Symbian Mobile OS. I told him that there already is a BitTorrent client coded solely for Symbian, and recoding uTorrent would be pointless. The Symbian OS already has a browser, all that really needs to be done is to make a Web UI designed for mobile browsers like that found in Symbian OS or even that of PocketPC's, heck even for the iPhone (I believe iPhone supports AJAX).
kxp Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 actually Firon was right. i was hoping for a WebUI in c++ for symbian. Unfortuanetly i don't have any expirience in this field so i can't do it myself. I was hoping that it would be a nice add for utorrent so the original developers could take it in theyr hands.
ettpok Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 I think that would not be too hard to create...it should be quite easy using the Webui API.. If I only knew C++ I'd do it myself
