Tons of hash fails with utorrent but none with azureus

Hi friends

I'm getting a lot of hash fails when downloading some big files. It's very annoying.

Some files keep downloading over and over and over..... for days....

I've replaced the computer, the windows version, the isp, the link (changed from dsl to a cable modem link), etc..... always getting hash fails.

I've read a lot about poisoned torrents, and at first i believed i am some kind of "no lucky guy" because i got aways bad torrents. :(:(:(

I'm talking about torrents with hundreds of seeds and peers. Plenty of users to send me the pieces.

The auto-ban feature is not accurate with "big parted" torrents. For example: when you're downloading a DVD iso, the pieces usually have 4Mb or even 8Mb, then the same piece is buid with block sent by a lot of users. When that piece got a hash fail utorrent ban each one who sent blocks to that piece, even the good ones. Across the hours everybody gets banned. I'd like a lot if there was a way to not download pieces diferent peers then when we get a hash fail we would know WHO to ban.

Today, someone suggested me to try Azureus.

And, unbelievable, it downloads THE SAME torrents with almost ZERO hash fails. (ok, i've got one, but it's normal, right?)

But i like utorrent a lot, and i really want to keep using it.

Does anybody have any ideia about why azureus can download the same torrents when utorrent can not?

As i said, i'm not able to detect exactly who are sending the bad data as the pieces are build with blocks from several sources.

Switeck

The Azureus's blocks lists comes empty. At least, the list i could found.

I noticed an interesting thing: Azureus dit not connected with any seed while there are pieces avaiable from the peers.

Thinking about this i guess it's a nice idea to avoid hash fails.

Thank you both for the answers, i will keep tracking this problem.

I suspect you won't be able to complete the torrent either way because the seeds have fake pieces. In µtorrents case you will get hashfails from the seeds, in the case of Azureus you don't connect to the seeds at all and will only get pieces from the peers who don't have the fake pieces because they get hashfails when trying to get them from the seeds.

The torrent is obviously poisoned.

that's not what azureus is doing. there's an option:

tools > options > ip filter

Ban a block of 256 addresses when at least this many in the block have been banned (n)

it comes at a default of 4.

it sees different peers in that range sending bad data, and after (n) of them being banned, it blocks the whole range. it has nothing to do with connecting to seeds.

If you see lots of ips very similar in number (with only the last number after the last period changing), then add that to your ipfilter.dat. It's only a little tedious, but pays off.

And my personal advice is ban ALL of the 38.x.x.x block like this:

38.0.0.0-38.255.255.255

That's your answer.

The same fuc*** guys.

Just add this to your ipfilter.dat and do a force re-check on your torrents.

38.0.0.0 - 38.255.255.255

66.36.224.0 - 66.36.255.255

207.234.128.0 - 207.234.255.255

209.133.0.0 - 209.133.127.255

I've gattered those addresses from foruns over there. They're all anti-p2p organizations.
