pardon my language but that is absolutely fucking disgraceful.

I second that... and in this case your use of strong language is absolutely correct. The person who thought it would be cool to install that crap on our PC's should be taken out back and shot... and be nominated for the Darwin award...

From a Washington Post Tech Blog http://blogs.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/2005/11/sony_raids_hack.html:

...the only way to uninstall the program in the conventional sense (without running the risk of hosing your system or CD-ROM drive) is to contact Sony BMG directly via a Web form and request removal.

At that point, a real, live person will call you back and ask for all kinds of information about your system, and your reason for wanting to remove the software. You're then directed to a Web page that downloads an ActiveX program (yes, you must be using Microsoft's Internet Explorer to do this), which determines what version is installed and reports that back to First4Internet. Then you get an e-mail containing a link to another site that downloads something that finally uninstalls the Sony program.

sony need a kick up there fat ass if they seriously expect ppl to goto those lengths just to remove something they didnt want in the first place. i seriously hope someone takes sony to court and sues them for millions. noone should have to have these things installed in the first place, and then sony asks YOU the consumer to goto extra lengths all because they want to be nosey fucks and put crap on ur pc.

one word for it. outrageous.

thats mad,

/me upgrades to WinXPx64 till Vista is out LOL

I dont know if u know but MS gonna have drm embedded in the Vista OS. And Intel already has drm in some of its processors. (in the procesors?......cmon) So count on MS and Intel teaming up and making brand new Intel PC's with the drm processor w/Vista........Folks who dont need drm are gonna have to check twice b4 buying a PC or installing an OS. Jeez....

and there will be 7 different versions of Vista out:

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20050910-5298.html

(the home premium edit has drm. not sure if the higher versions will have it too,)

The real funny feature was the 'P2P Meeting Place'. Watch some dumbass try to use it for 'questionable' filesharing......LOL!!!

Intel and their damn drm!!

Some more info about drm + Vista

http://www.drmwatch.com/special/article.php/3529586

An interesting read about drm (even MS employees are unhappy with the idea)

I saw this on phoenixlabs.org =

quick translation to english =

After the exposing of that Sony BGM CD's infect the CD-buyers computers with a spy program,

a global hate campaign has been made againt Sony. Consumer organizations(direct tranlsation) are in rage, boycotts has been made, Sony's hompage has been hacked and people from several countries are suing Sony.

Now another exposing has been made: Sony's rootkit is an infringment of one of "DVD-Jon" programs.

btw, read about sony's new EULA here = http://forums.phoenixlabs.org/showthread.php?p=73102#post73102

Now I read Sony is recalling some 5 million CDs. Plus they get a a couple of lawsuits filed agianst them in Cali. I read an article where someone said they should be treated like any spyware/virus writer and Sony execs who signed off on the rootkit be held accountable. I agree 100%.

P.S. The rootkit doesnt stop experienced ppl from ripping CDs. Just the general public that makes copies 1:1. So it was a waste of time using the rootkit to "protect" the CDs.

Shame on u Sony...........They lucky the PS3 is coming out next year

Note: Two titles, Ricky Martin's "Life" and Peter Gallagher's "7 Days in Memphis" were released with a content protection grid on the back of the CD packaging but XCP content protection software was not actually included on the albums.

I wonder how many more CD's that claim they have content protection actually do.

Agree with you on all your points except this...I think they're unlucky that PS3 is so close to release next year. This whole rootkit ordeal might just signal the death of PS3, Blu-Ray and the rest of the once mighty Sony empire (due to a lack of consumer enthusiasm/confidence)... :|

I highly doubt that, the general public is quite ignorant to this whole rootkit saga, or atleast in my expierence with talking with people about it.
