Typhoon859
How does lowering the maximum upload rate affect your download rate?
Ultima
http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#What_does_Download_Limited_in_the_status_bar_mean.3FAside from that, if you don't upload much to some peers, they'll give you lower priority than peers who do upload to them, and you end up (possibly) getting less sources for downloading (and consequently, lower download speeds, maybe). Typhoon859
out of all of those, can you please give me the specific link to where it says so? I don't see it.
Ultima
Huh? I did link directly to the correct FAQ entry.
Typhoon859
nope, I tried it again and it gets me to the page with the whole list of questions for problems.
Ultima
Then you've got a broken browser. Section 6.3.
Typhoon859
lol, broken browser. Internet explorer? never touched? I tried it with firefox as well. Nothing wrong.
Typhoon859
o, wait a sec. So if I put upload rate higher than 5 kb/sec, then that rule doesn't apply and my download rate will be the same 6 kb/sec-infinity?
Ultima
Edit: Yes. Even still, limiting to as low as possible within the confines of µTorrent's rudimentary leech-deterrent isn't going to get you brownie points, or better speeds (if that's what you're trying to get at). What does Download Limited in the status bar mean?I'm not sure what question you're expecting to look for, but I even just told you section 6.3 if you couldn't view the link, so you couldn't possibly get lost anyway... -.-
Typhoon859
no... I saw it. And it worked. I just thought it was the wrong thing so I started scrolling, sorry. It says there that it only applies for people that set the maximum upload rate to 1-5 kb/sec.. So my question is, if I set my maximum upload rate to 6 kb/sec for example, will what it says there not apply to me? From what I understand, it says there that for the maximum upload rate I put, my download maximum rate is divided by 6, that of the upload rate. Ultima
(Check my edit above)Additionally, Optimum Online is well known for offering awesome speeds, so I don't see why you're interested in keeping your upload speed at bare minimum. Typhoon859
yes, I have optimum onl;ine, but it's very slow. Making the upload rate infinite really slows down the internet speed making it difficult to browse. And when i lowered the upload rate, even for things with thousands of sseds, the download rate barely worked. Barely reaching 1 kb/sec. and what edit above? This is my first post here? What edit? Do you know the answer to the previous question I asked or not?

Switeck
Did you run Speed Guide (CTRL+G) and choose the setting that closest matched (but was LESS than) your connection's max TESTED upload speed?
Typhoon859
yes. I put in the correct setting. Mine was 7.7 mb/sec download so i put 10. 7 is closer to 10 than
Switeck
The setting is based on your UPLOAD speed, as well as needing the lower amount to prevent overloads. So you need to try again.
Ultima
Selecting xx/10mbit doesn't set the upload rate to unlimited anyhow. And I was referring to my edit in my previous post, which you did not respond to in your post following it. But whatever.
Switeck
The setting you probably need is xx/1mbit AT HIGHEST.
