utorrenter2007
Hi all,Firstly, big creds to the utorrent developers! Its a great bit of kit and I am a 100% convert from Azureus to utorrent. Azureaus is a great programme, but for my needs utorrent gets my vote! So, enough of the bigging up, I thought I would throw my two-penny's worth into the ring with regards to utorrent locking up, giving the BSOD (blue screen of death) or forcing the computer to re-start!Firstly, lets make it clear, it is unlikely to actually be uTorrent actually crashing, but in fact it being a catalyst to your computer crashing. So its not uTorrent crashing, but just the fact your running P2P software and your computer has an issue with it......its not to say that issue isn't solveable, in my experience it is!There are hundreds of posts over the internet as to why the likes of uTorrent, Azureus, BitTorrent, Torrent Lord.....etc..... cause the computer to crash and so I figured that from my basic knowledge (which is very simplistic and I am not trying to be a know it all) i would try and write out my solutions to the problem of BSOD,crash and locking up, whilst using uTorrent.Solutions to try (these are by no means exhaustive, but they are worth trying if your having issues!)1) Check the uTorrent FAQ's to make sure that your modem/router isn't on the list of incompatible modems/routers. If it is, then follow the instructions carefully to ensure your giving uTorrent the best chance possible:http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Modems_routers_that_are_known_to_have_problems_with_P2P2) Ensure that you have followed the set-up guides to maximise your computers potential. I found a really useful guide here (but there are so many conflicting sources out there, so chose one you liek the look of):http://www.johntp.com/2006/04/19/how-to-increase-download-speeds-of-utorrent/3) This one may sound obvious, but there are so many people that don't do it. Search the forums for your problem, or list of software that may be incompatible. There is a host of AV (anti-virus) software that causes uTorrent to drop off, so make sure your not on that list. I personally run AVG with PeerGuardian2 with no problem, but there are loads that do work, so just search these very forums.4) Check your hardware! I can not stress this enough. I recently had a problem with my computer just re-starting after about 10 minutes of running uTotorrent. Everytime I loaded uTorrent the same thing happened and I was tearing my hair out......needless to say, a little investigation later I found out that it was a hardware driver issue. Here's what I found out:a) Firstly, my computer was crashing then re-booting and coming up with a Microsoft note telling me it had recovered from a serious crash. When i looked at the detail, a whole series of codes came up that meant nothing.......so what do you do? Go to my computer, then right click to get properties, then go to advanced. In there go to system start-up/recovery and un-check the box saying restart automatically. c) Then, re-satrt utorrent and wait for the computer crash. This time instead of automattically restarting, the computer will bring up a blue screen of information. This screen will have info at the top and bottom, but the real info your looking for is something like 0x000000D or 0x00000000A etc... Copy that piece of information and google it! More than likely solutiuons will come up in the first few google posts. d) I found my issue firstly was with a Logitech Mouse software conflict, so i just un-installed the software. Then the programme crahsed my computer again and this time it was my wireless adapter that had caused the issue. I right clicked on it and updated the driver and guess what...........my computer stopped crashing.......so it was a hardware driver that needed updating. So what did I learn.....well that uTorrent was not screwed, but in fact it was causing my computer/WindowsXP to find issues with itself. Now solved uTorrent is working beautiffully. So, the morale of this very long story is this.....if your computer crashes when running uTorrent, there is most likely a way to fix it. Many people can point you in the right direction, these forums and google are fonts of knowledge. Some problems can be descried and solved in an istant, some are new and need some investigation.....but remember your not alone and if your having an issue, the likelyhood is that someone in the world is having the same or similar issue!Well i hope that this has solved your issue with your computer crashing/BSOD or freezing whilst using uTorrent. If it has't then let us all know and we'll try and solve it with you, not for you!Enjoy!
