themightyblot
Whenever queuing up new downloads, uTorrent re-starts itself, causing the program to put up a "It seems that uTorrent is already running, but is not responding" message. I'm also having problems within uTorrent itself, as it's horribly unresponsive at times to doing anything within it outside of downloading/uploading. The downloading and uploading seem to be fine, it's just when I try to remove a torrent from the list or select individual parts of a torrent that it won't respond for 10 seconds or more. Ultima
Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, File > Save, then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here.

cjard
Aeqitas; im seeding about 300 gigs of stuff located on a network drive. Every time I start uT there is a significant delay as uT checks the files and starts seeding them. It does all this before the GUI shows up.Be patient. If you can see uTorrent in the Processes list in Task Manager, then it's busy starting up..
Switeck
µTorrent should only be checking that the files exist and are the correct size in that case, rather than doing a complete hash check...so that shouldn't take more than maybe 15-30 seconds if everything is still there. If you've been changing around drive letters though, and numerous torrent files are unavailable, then the delay may be longer. cjard
Switeck: Indeed: 30 seconds before the GUI appears is a "significant delay" - I bet Aquetias is experiencing this and not being patient enough. Perhaps a message of what UT is doing would suffice..
kstephens98
I am experiencing this issue as well. It's not a simple delay at startup of utorrent. Its intermittent periods of unresponsive GUI. More like intermittent responsiveness in my case. It just freezes for 10 - 20 seconds at a time and then becomes responsive for about 2 seconds then goes unresponsive again. Here is the text from Process Explorer.Any help is appreciated. Firon
NOD32 stands out in that list. It's been giving users problems lately.
kstephens98
Yeah, I thought that too, but I tried closing NOD32 and then running utorrent and the problem persists.
Switeck
Did you remove NOD32 from your hard drive? It's like a trojan, only a complete uninstall will guarantee it's not loading into memory.
Firon
CLosing won't work, only uninstalling.
kstephens98
Okay, I'll try to uninstall to see if that is causing the issues when I am able. If NOD32 is the problem, what other Anti Virus software would you suggest with Vista Ultimate?Update: I tried uninstalling NOD32 and the problem persists. Switeck
There have been a LOT of Vista tricks and tips posted lately, see if they help....like this one:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=20664...and here:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=20979
kstephens98
Thanks, but neither apply. My net connection with utorrent is fine. Speeds are fine. Its the user interface that is unresponsive >80% of the time with brief periods of responsiveness in between lags of unresponsiviness. For instance, I'll double click on the task bar Icon to get utorrent window and will have to wait 10 - 20 seconds before the window actually shows up. Once it does show on the desktop, if I click on anything, again another 10-20 second delay before anything happens, and so on.... I can tell you that it seems directly related to the number of torrents I have in the queue. I had 4 torrents in my window and utorrent was very slow to respond. I now have only 2 torrents in queue and utorrents response is much quicker now. Hardly lags at all. Anyway, I guess I'll just limit the number of torrents I have in queue until a better solution is found. It will probably take some time for all of the software vendors out there to get things configured correctly for Vista. Thanks for all of your help. Switeck
What's µTorrent's half open max set to under its advanced settings?Vista Home Edition's max is only 5, so µTorrent needs to be set to 4 or less.
kstephens98
net.half_open was set to 8. I am using Vista Ultimate btw. I changed it to 4, but did not seem to help. utorrent gui still freezing. Thanks for the suggestion.
orik
I experienced the same "freeze" problem. Uninstalling "Spyware Doctor" ver.5 resolved it. I did it just 15 min ago. Spyware Doctor ver 4 works fine. Now I'm planning to write to Spyware Doctor support and explain the problem/bug.George
MatrixM
I was having the exact same problem here. In my case it turned out to be network shares that files had been saved to that were no longer available. Like Switeck and cjard mentioned, it was taking a while for uTorrent to realize that the location for the torrents were no longer available. In my case it took utorrent about a full minute to finally start up. I attribute this to the clunky NFS client implementation I've got on this windows box. I was thinking that it had be because of a windows update that was performed recently, I'm glad others had experienced this already and had a useful solution to my problem. For those who are experiencing the issue of it not starting right away and seeming to hang, just wait some time. Go make a cup of coffee, or grab a snack or something. It should be running by the time you get back. Then you can remove the torrents that are pointing to inaccessible locations.Unfortunately, none of this helps the original poster who seems to be having different problems. In regards to your email, please be aware that Spyware Doctor contains many extensive tools to provide real time protection from potential threats. Can you please turn the OnGuard feature ON and then turn all of the individual tools to OFF. Switeck
Their reply is: "We don't know what's wrong...but we want you to tell us!"...shows that maybe they didn't do enough in-house testing before they released their beta (or alpha) software out the door.
