miyavi_dear
I'm having alot of trouble with my downloading speed.I usually download anywhere from 1 to 10kb/s. But I upload 50kb/s. Doesn't seem right to me. I've been working to fix this, but nothing seems to work. Here's my Stats:-My network status light is GREEN- My Port 50951 is open and accepting connections.- Setting: Upload Limit: 381 kb/s Upload Slots: 20 Global Connection: 450 Max Active Torrents: 3 Max Active Downloads: 2 - Operating System: Windows XP- Windows Firewall (but I have both utorrent and my port listed as exceptions)- I'm using DSL through my college. Thanks
Ultima
What are the results of a speed test for your connection?
phenom
It could be that your college server's firewall is blocking the port you're using, or has some kind of traffic shaping scheme in place. Personally, i'd be inclined to think it's the former - in which case there is little you can do short of accessing the server itself, or persuading one of the administrators to open a port for you. When I was living on campus a very technically-minded flatmate discovered a block of open ports on the server firewall - perhaps you could look into that. Another unlikely but possible option is to try using UPnP.If it's the latter, then you can try enabling Protocol Encryption (go to Options > Preferences > BitTorrent).Hope this is of some help. Ultima
Doubtful if he can upload at 50KiB/s, but then again, we'd need to know his connection's max upload rate to be able to know for sure =\

Ultima
lol sorry about that -- I use "he/his/him" just as convenience devices, not really to imply anything about gender Are those numbers in kilobits/second, or kilobytes/second? Ultima
Just to be sure... if you were running any internet-enabled application while you were testing the speed (that includes µTorrent), then test again, but this time, exit/stop everything else besides the test page in your browser. Anyhow, you're not setting µTorrent up properly -- you should be using the Speed Guide to set everything up (by selecting the proper upload rate). Switeck
µTorrent's upload speed max needs to be set below your connection's maximum upload speed by at least 20%.If you've got µTorrent set to upload at 381 kb/s but can only upload at 215 kb/s, then you're likely to see VERY low download speeds...like 1-10 kilobytes/sec. miyavi_dear
Why it's all screwed up is probably because I ran the speed test again this morning and got an upload speed of 1382 Kb/sthat's a huge difference from yesterday.... Switeck
You are almost certainly mixing up bandwidth values (which are typically kilobits/sec) with file/torrent transfer speeds (which are in KILOBYTES/sec).It takes roughly 8.5-10 kilobits/sec of bandwidth for every 1 KILOBYTE/sec of file transfer rate.So 1382 Kb/s of bandwidth is only about 160 KILOBYTES/sec max file transfer rate. Therefore, it seems likely that µTorrent's upload speed shouldn't be set faster than 160 KB/sec. Ultima
Even if your connection supposedly has ~1.3mbit/s upload, your settings are still way overboard. If you're sure that the speed test is projecting a more-or-less accurate estimate of your internet connection speed, then select xx/1mbit in the Speed Guide and increase the upload rate by approximately... 40?
