MisterBubbles
HiToday my internet cut out and when it came back I opened a torrent and got a red exclamation mark. I clicked the port test button and it came back as closed. I verified the router page for port forwarding and it says the port is open. I have tried differnet ports and it doesn't work. My IP address is the same as before the internet cut out. What happened?I am using a WRT54G router on a wireless network.
Ultima
You set up a static IP address for your computer, right...?
MisterBubbles
How do I check? Probably not.

MisterBubbles
I think I have a static IP because I restarted and my IP stayed the same.. 192.168.1.100My computer says it automatically obtains an IP though.Do I need to call my ISP to find the DNS whatever or can I find it by myself? Ultima
That doesn't indicate a static IP. You're within the WRT54G's DHCP range, which is not what you're supposed to have it at -- it's supposed to be outside the range, so do set your computer's static IP address to 192.168.1.99 or something, and forward to that IP. Ultima
It should be listed when you check ipconfig /all.
MisterBubbles
HiI set up a static ip address on both computers, made sure the port being forwarded has the correct IP and port #, but I still get the red exclamation and the port checker says it's closed. Ultima
Just to be 100% sure, you've set your computer to have an IP outside of the DHCP range like I said you should, right? What modem are you using?
MisterBubbles
>>Just to be 100% sure, you've set your computer to have an IP outside of the DHCP range like I said you should, right???? I set up a static IP if thats what you mean.I'm not sure why the modem model matters because it was working fine before the internet plug came out my router but it is a RCA DCM425. Ultima
There's a little something called Real Life™ that we actually have to deal with, so STOP being impatient. What IP did you set your computer to have?

Ultima
That's not outside the DHCP range. Set your IP address to something like 192.168.1.153 and forward to that IP.
MisterBubbles
My wireless network cards monitor says my DHCP client is disabled though.
Ultima
Regardless. I'm not sure why you keep trying to worm your way around making a proper static IP. If you actually cooperated, you might've solved the issue already.
MisterBubbles
Sorry for that, I'm not doing it on purpose.. I'm just new to networking stuff.Okay, I'll set this one up for 192.168.1.153. Do I have to make the other one 192.168.1.154 ?
Ultima
Nope, just one should do fine.
MisterBubbles
I set it to 192.168.1.153 , made sure the router forwards it to the correct IP, but it still doesn't work.

Ultima
Connect your computer directly to the modem. Does it work?
MisterBubbles
Well I can't because the modem is like 50 feet and 1 floor below this computer. But thanks for trying, I posted on another forum and they told me to reset my router. So I'm going to try that.
