Ron_Man
Thanks for looking. For the life of me I can't seem to forward my ports at all. I have a very, very, very slow computer upstairs where my router is. My modem is connected to a Linksys RT31P2 Router (for Vonage phone), routed to my Linksys WRT54G (updated with v4.71.1, Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c firmware). I patiently waited half an hour to try set up my Static IP and forwarding my ports to it using the instructions from portforward.com. Used a bunch of ports on uTorrent and none of them were open. I also connected the ethernet cable to my laptop and try to do it this way too but to no avail. My main problem is this. I use the laptop solely for my personal computer since the one upstairs takes too long just to even boot up. What I want to know is if I am successful setting up portforwarding on my computer upstairs can I finally forget about him and just get on my laptop and enjoy downloading with fast speeds via my wireless or do I also have to set up my ports here on it? (On my laptop now as we speak as I lost patience with the desktop upstairs). Please help me. Thanks
Ultima
You need to forward a unique port for each computer, so forwarding for one computer doesn't mean it's forwarded for every other computer.
Ron_Man
Ok I think I figured it out but I still need help. I think my RT31P2 router is throwing everything off. I went to my friend's house and he has the WRT54G router that I have and sure enough the ports forward on my laptop. I go home and do the same thing but the ports still won't open. I can't exactly remove the RT31P2 from the network because that is my VOIP router. Please help me what do I need to do?My setup is this: Cable Modem to RT31P2. RT31P2 to WRT54G. I'm on wireless laptop and hae set up my static IP already, which works at my friend's house after setting up the ports on his router but not mine. Any ideas? Thanks. Ultima
Sounds like another double NAT issue to me... Check the advanced port forwarding guide for a detailed explanation in the second link in my signature (the user manual). If there's something you don't understand, feel free to ask.
