essaniael
My Prevx1 anti spy/malware resident program immediately told me that UTORRENT.EXE standalone 1.6.1 (170k) that I downloaded today and tried to run included malware! Is Prevx being too sensitive? Has anyone else seen this problem?
Ultima
The answer to your question is "no, there is no malware included," but I'm curious -- what exactly does it say is included?
Firon
It's being too sensitive. It's not the first time someone's posted about it. It freaks because it's compressed with PECompact2.
essaniael
PECompact2. Interesting. Why would that freak it out? Can you tell me any more about PECompact2?Also can you tell me whether I should be downloading the standalone utorrent (170k) or the installation program (646k)? I am presently already running Utorrent ver 1.
Firon
It's a program for compressing EXEs, similar to UPX. It's commonly used by viruses, so stupid anti-virus programs automatically think anything compressed with it is a virus.Just use the standalone version. essaniael
Below is the URL containing ample data on what it thinks about UTORRENT.EXEPrevx appears not to like it at all!All comments wellcome.http://info.prevx.com/pxparall.asp?LANG=english&MID=7301cf59daa817f648d2edc404da5f6fdce56a36e4b53744e77171fab1206fe6&LIC=F35F3B14-433C-4C0A-AB5A-70A43CCC7376&PROFILE=PREVX1&SV=33619998&CMD=appinfo&PX5=af3bc2c800966514b227024aaa7db100e9ddb776

essaniael
I already sent them a query. Perhaps there might be a trojan out there being propagated with the filename: UTORRENT.EXEI have asked them whether Prevx actually scans the file for malware or simply checks its online database for a name-match.My other AV software (Grisoft AVG) found no such malware in UTORRENT.EXE. However, in the past AVG has let me down and my whole PC got badly infected, while Prevx was more thorough.
Firon
Well, it says it detected it through "heuristics", so I think it just misinterpreted µTorrent's actions as malicious

essaniael
Response from Prevx today:"Thank you for letting us know about this determination. We have reviewed internally and agree we should change this determination. If this program is in your jail then please doubleclick on it to allow it to run.
