DreadWingKnight
Build 490 is current.Sending older versions is in violation of the rules of our support forums and irc channel
Falcon4
That was pretty dry, DWK... and since when/why is having an older version a mortal sin?
alex14san
there was an issue with PECompact, use search

Falcon4
Why? It doesn't make any sense... 1.6 broke support for 386es as well as UPnP for many people, so why is it so forbidden to speak of? He wasn't even discussing "sending" an older version, I think he said to be sending the new version anyway. What's the huge deal there? o_O
Firon
488 had a crash bug and 489 also had a crash bug, so definitely don't give those two builds to people.
baconlepew
I think everyone got the context mixed up.The 489 build that everyone downloaded yesterday (re: jivan) from the website has been replaced by 490 to fix a bug (re: Firon). The update came down and prompted the user, but no official announcement in a separate thread in the announcement forum was created. This may have caused confusion as finding the details are pretty hard to find. Outside of this thread that I had to search for ("build 490"), I had no idea what the update was for and why it came out so soon.As far as sending out the utorrent executable: jivan was referencing the new 490 build, and not the 489 build. He wanted confirmation that it was an official buildjivan "If somebody wants I can always send the file. It came through Help > Check for Updates."... send the file. It (the 490 build) came through...
Firon
If it's on the updater, it is official. Very few people can put files on there, and it also requires a valid signed hash (made with an RSA private key), else the client will reject it. Falcon4
Still don't understand the old version restriction thing though. The topic DWK linked is locked and this site doesn't have PMs, so there's pretty much no other place to discuss it. "But there's nothing to discuss", yeah yeah, typical dry nonsense. This is a big issue for me because there are a number of problems that can be solved by using 1.5 instead of 1.6 and higher... but discussing older versions is forbidden. WHY IS THAT?? >.<
jivan
Firon, sorry it took me so much time to respond, baconlepew hit the nail right on the head when he said tht. There are couple of reasons for what I wrote, 1. For a casual user like me (who can be paranoid sometimes) any updates which do not have any announcement on the site is suspicious. 2. Even in the download link http://www.utorrent.com/download.php build 489 was shown. In fact right after tht post I jumped on IRC to see if this was legal update or not. Came to know tht 490 was updated 12 hrs. earlier but still some people were getting it/not getting it kinda thing. If it's on the updater, it is official. Very few people can put files on there, and it also requires a valid signed hash (made with an RSA private key), else the client will reject itAnother thing tht would be cool if u publish an md5/SHA-1 checksum of any new version so it can be checked. Although the updater might be more intelligent than me but I'm at peace if I can prove tht it has come in right.
Firon
The updater uses an SHA-1 hash, filesize check and an additional signed hash internally. So there's no chance of installing a corrupted file. 324d14d3c6bec2537874e3db020a9d00f60701f6 if you want it.
µtorrent-Guest
jivan: a guy named Firon gave me in the IRC the following md5 for 1.6.1b490:E3013175D75CB6ABBB55F61FDFEF7F50HTH
jivan
This is precisely why I asked . I'm using Hashcalc http://www.slavasoft.com/hashcalc/index.htm to calculate the SHA-1 Hash as well as MD5 of the file. As per tht the things are :-SHA-1 :- 6ea1ae27dd8dc5f0fc260882f9c8183c339a6a71MD5 :- 4b8febd44dabdfc31f9bfa03ebbf2bf2 As one can see both the hashes are not the same as given by you. While things work, are u sure u gave me the right codes?
Firon
Yes. If the hash was wrong, then the auto-updater would not've worked for anyone. Are you sure you're using 490?
µtorrent-Guest
no, he is not!he uses 483 according not only by his SIG, but also by the hashes
Firon
Eh. You should upgrade.Anyway, your SHA-1 is correct for build 483.
