makeitso
Hi,I think that it would be a valuable addition to utorrent if it was possible to specify separate proxies for communications with the tracker and for peer-to-peer data transfers. Some people are forced to use a proxy for peer-to-peer data transfer due to network or firewall polices, but would still benefit from the privacy of being able to route tracker communications through a network like TOR.Thoughts? Ultima
Preferences > Connection > Use proxy server for peer-to-peer connectionAlready implemented. And BitTorrent should NOT be run over Tor, reasons for which have been discussed to death already on these forums.
makeitso
Forgive me if I wasn't clear, what I meant was that in addition to the existing support for one proxy server to be used for both communications with the tracker and peer to peer data exchange, it would be nice if it was possible to specifiy separate proxies for each of these tasks - so that bandwidth-intensive data exchange could be sent over one proxy (e.g. ssh tunnelled to a private server to evade a firewall) and bandwidth-non-intensive tracker communication could be sent over a different proxy, e.g. the TOR network, to keep one's identity more hidden from the tracker. As far as I'm aware, there's no problem with using TOR for client-to-tracker scrape and stats communication, as long as it's not used for peer-to-peer data exchange.
