FFP
Tracker Status: "An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions"I have looked through these forums as well as others and cannot find an answer to this error message which exists on all download general info tabs in uTorrent. Version 1.6 (build 474) Downloading is indicated to be occurring but in reality is not.
FFP
Posted this a little prematurely - I fixed the problem myself - if somebody else is experiencing this issue then please post and I will provide the solution.
Ultima
Well, I think it'd be best that you just posted the information in general, even if other people don't experience the same thing at the moment...
FFP
Very good if that is what you want - first time I have ever posted to a forum so not sure of the etiquette! The solution was to open the properties of the uTorrent.exe file and select the "Privilege Level" as "Run this program as an Administrator".I also selected to run the application in compatability mode for Windows XP SP2 or later.Worked for me. Ultima
Heh I sorta figured as much (as the original error dealt with permissions)... Some people might have qualms about running applications with administrative privileges, though, so perhaps something needs to be changed in µTorrent's method of accessing a socket...Edit: Mm...<alus> "... possible reason for the WSAEACCES error is that when the bind function is called (on Windows NT 4 SP4 or later), another application, service, or kernel mode driver is bound to the same address with exclusive access. Such exclusive access is a new feature of Windows NT 4 SP4 and later, and is implemented by using the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option."<alus> so maybe shut down uTorrent and do a "netstat -ab"
mdalves
I've got the same error with Vista. It only happens when I lose internet connectivity which occurs randomly after a couple of hours of torrent downloading or uploading. The funny thing is that this error only appears when the torrent refreshes the tracker information, if that doesn't happen the download or upload continues as if there were no problem. While I got this error I can't surf the web or receive emails. Then after sometime (could be a couple of minutes or more than an hour) the internet connection comes back up and everything function as if nothing had happened. The only way sure way to make the connection back up immediately is rebooting the computer. This problem is driving me crazy. Here are my settings and all the things I've already done:1- Lowered half-open connections to 8, 4 and 2.2- Used the recommended settings given by speed guide.3- Turned off Windows Firewall (right now I'm using Kapersky)4- My cable modem is directly connected to my NIC.5- Turned off UAC, I've set utorrent with all access and also enable XP SP2 compatibility6- Turned off and then on IPv6Please somebody help me
Switeck
I'm starting to wonder if Windows Vista also has an incoming connection attempt limit hard-coded somewhere like the outgoing half-open limit. An indirect way to check/confirm that is on a nearly 'dead' torrent with fewer than 20 total seeds+peers...and then on a single torrent with LOTS of seeds+peers (like 1,000+). exiter
mmmm...anyone find a solution?i switched NIC cards...did everything mdalves did...even deleted a registery entry and restarted something about local connection, can't remember now it was another forum, and i'm still stuck. it seems also that after switching NIC cards it did run longer before the error appears.also appears to only happen, to me, when just seeding...never when doing both leeching and seeding.i dunno...help?! mdalves
My solution was to go back to XP 'til somebody comes up with something.
exiter
LOL!i dunno about that mdalves this rig came with it on it...i wonder if this only happens with the vista firewall...i'm kinda waiting for a Vista compatiable firewall to be released or has someone tried that yet and still have the same problem? mdalves
I've turned off Vista Firewall and installed Kaspersky. The problem still didn't go way.I know that this isn't a problem only with utorrent since it happened with Azureus too. So it must have something to do with the way Vista handles high traffic. exiter
i dunno, i got a response like the one here today from a google group.2 or more programs or what not are trying to access the same socket.i don't if it will help any but i'm going to try and change the local port in the firewall for utorrnet (start > run> wf.msc) and see what happens... mdalves
Tell me if you succeeded with these changes. I'm dying to go back to Vista, but I can't if these annoyances continue.

SurlyDuff
I'm still seeing these issues in the latest utorrent betas so I guess it hasn't been fixed yet:-\. I don't like my network crashing every 2-3 hours so I switched to azureus until it's sorted out
Firon
turn off DHT and keep your net.max_halfopen low
SurlyDuff
How low is low?... like 10 or like 5?
Firon
Vista Home Basic needs less than 4, others need less than 10.
SurlyDuff
Thanks for the response:D I hope this works. Edit: Well I turned off DHT and set the net.max_halfopen to 9 and it still crashed my network (I'm using Vista Ultimate). I then set it to 4 just to be on the safe side and same problem after about 3 hours of being up. Had to restart the PC after both.

slipperyfox
I am having the same problems and using XP Pro. This problem has only just started the last few days and is a pain in the arse. It happens to all the trackers i connect to and are unable to D/L. I have a green tick for my network connections.
exiter
to be honest...it's a windows thing...i had vista running without utorrent and and came back and had no i-net connection with IE...it's gotta be a socket thing like XP had when the patch was released for that... Ryan Norton
I'm currently leaning towards that it is some kind of firewall issue -http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aDisplay02132pAnother wild guess of mine is that it might be due to the new "Enhanced Socket Security" added in 2003/Vista to prevent port hijacking:http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms740621.aspxNote in the tables where "ACCESS" is; that is this error code.Again, this is wild speculation on my part as I still haven't been able to reproduce it yet...If anyone effected would like to do a process explorer process list that would be helpful as well.
