Ares
I was just wondering if, now that uTorrent uses DHT, if it is necessary to forward UDP along with the TCP on whatever port I'm using. I already am, I'm just wondering if it is necessary. I don't fully understand how DHT works, so, does uTorrent use UDP as well now? If not, is it planned (since it seemed to help my speeds on BitComet)?I would just like to say that uTorrent is leaving my BitComet in the dust. I'm definately using my max bandwidth, and I can still surf web pages without a hitch. Very nice. Thanks!Thanks,-Ares
Firon
DHT will work without the UPD port forwarded, but it's just like when you don't have TCP forwarded: it doesn't work as well.uTorrent uses UDP for DHT, TCP for everything else. Both use the same port number.

infirmus
Any of the developers want to confirm this? Does UPnP automatically forward the UDP ports as well?
durerca
I'm a little confused, aside from DHT now being available, is it also possible to connect to trackers that use the UDP protocol only?
Ultima
No, UDP tracker support still hasn't been added. I'm not sure of the exact details of how DHT works, but according to Firon, µTorrent uses UDP for DHT. It has nothing to do with UDP trackers. ludde
Afaik there is no need to forward UDP ports, the router handles that automatically.
infirmus
Afaik there is no need to forward UDP ports, the router handles that automatically.Do you mean that with UPnP the router will automatically forward the UDP ports or that forwarding of UDP ports is just not nessescary (i.e. there is no need to have a open UDP port)
