My hardware/software:

im using a Linksys WRT54GS v6 wireless router, latest firmware as of today. It is connected to a Siemens 4200 ADSL modem for internet. I have Norton Antivirus and Zone Alarm Pro.

The problem:

I've had this problem for a very long time. I can never recieve incoming connections with any torrent client. WIth bit tornado, i had to hit the manual annouce button in order to get any download speed (always had a yellow light with bit tornado). Utorrent is giving me the red light/not connectable a router/firewall is limiting your network traffic. You need to open up a port so others can connect to you. The port test in the speed guide always fails.

What I have done:

Ive forwarded the port uTorrent uses in the connection menu to my STATIC ip address for both the linksys and siemens, for both upd and tcp. On the Linksys, i've also gone into the security/firewall menu and unchecked the "block anonymous internet requests"

In zone alarm, i made an expert rule for utorrent, doing the whole add new protocol and destination port-other for the first box, port# for the second. In the firewall menu, main tab, I also went to the custom menu and checked the allow incoming/outgoing UDP/TCP boxes, typing in the port for each one.

I still get a red light, still get yellow in bittornado. Not sure what to do at this point. Please help if you can

Windows firewall is off, router firewalls not on. I've already configured zone alarm to give utorrent access to everything

I unistalled it, had no firewall running and it still says no incoming connections, as did the port check failed. I switched over to comodo firewall pro afterwards, though

Are you sure you disabled the Windows firewall?

'Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services' and then look for 'Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)' and double-click on it to make sure you have it on DISABLED. Restart your computer afterwards.

I suppose the Seimens 4200 is a router, although it only has one ethernet port, which is used to give internet to my linksys. And it does have a firewall, which is disabled Having said that, when i forward a port on the seimens, should I forward it to the default gateway IP of the linksys, or should I just forward it to my computer? (I have been forwarding to my computer)

Also, i noticed that the linksys router has a setting in the advanced routing section that lets you switch from "Gateway" and "router settings". The help menu said if the linksys was hosting the internet, click gateway, and if it was connected to another router, click router. Could this be causing any problems?

You forward it to the Linksys router. The router has its own IP address on the SpeedStream's subnet different from its gateway IP address on your computer. You're going to need to look through the Linksys's configuration to figure out its IP address, and make it static too.

That was it. I needed to forward it to my linksys. I got the green light, port check said "OK!" First time I've ever seen the green light. Thanks for all the help, really. Haven't been able to even host a game online because of this.

Actually something isnt right. My laptop is getting a green and checks the port ok, but i still get a failed port check/not connectable on my desktop. Im not sure if i forwarded the siemens to the linksys with the correct port. I set up my desktop with the exact same firewall settings, and disabled windows firewall from the adminstrative tools. Utorrent on my desktop is using a separate port than the one on my laptop, yet when i forward it, it doesnt work. How exactly do you find the ip of a router? (linksys is connected to the siemens)
