mikehd Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Up til today I've had a stable bit torrent configuration using uTorrent 1.6.1, a Linksys BEFSR41, and CenturyTel as my ISP. Today I can't keep an IP address for more than 10 minutes. Is this a symptom of the ISP intervening? Are they kicking me out, then my Linksys (with keep alive enabled at 30 sec intervals) is re-establishing me?The torrent itself isn't so well seeded but its been averaging 28kB/s (currently its peaking at ~60kB/s). My service tests out at 3000kbps/512kbps. I have d/l set to 50kB/s to ensure I'm not choking.I'll repeat this with a better seeded torrent in a bit, but thought I'd ask the ISP question first.thanks,Mike

mikehd Posted April 8, 2007 Author Report Posted April 8, 2007 Thanks for the quick reply. Regarding your question, I currently have the following settings under Number of Connections:Global maximum number of connections - 200 (had it at 250 before w/o this issue)Maximum number of connected peers per torrent - 90Number of upload slots per torrent - 4All addition BitTorrent features are checked.Protocol encryption is enabled w/ allowing incoming legacy connections checked.thanks again...
DreadWingKnight Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 It definetly sounds more like your ISP is causing the problem at this point, although you may try a power cycle first.
mikehd Posted April 8, 2007 Author Report Posted April 8, 2007 yep, I've power cycled both my modem and router during this troubleshooting event. The behavior continues as I type.
silverfire Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 If it's a cable modem, instead of just power cycling, make sure you wait at least 10 seconds before plugging it back in. I know my Motorola cable modem doesn't go through TFTP to fetch a new firmware unless it's been off for more than 10 seconds.
mikehd Posted April 8, 2007 Author Report Posted April 8, 2007 I usually wait 30 seconds to 5 minutes (depending on the issue) with my dsl modem (Westell 6100). When I was having synch issues (not currently, synch is staying solid) I would have to let it set for 3-5 minutes. Back to topic, I do think it is my ISP now. Thanks.../editJust got off a tech chat with a CenturyTel CSR. s/he claims that CT is not actively monitoring or interdicting BT traffic and recommended that I make a service call.
Switeck Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Try removing the download speed limit and putting the upload speed limit at 30 KiloBYTES/sec.
