runrunrun
This is my first post so be nice ya'llThe new DHT feature is AWESOME and i'm glad to see utorrent advancing. I was curious about the number of DHT peers that ppl are getting?? Mine is fluctuating around 300 peers. Is that about right?? thanks in advance for any help. =Dand yes I did multiple searches! ;Doneluv
RocK
300 peers. im jelous. my DHT stats just shows "Waiting to log in"
Ultima
Yeah, mine was around 240-300 when I checked earlier.
PegasusX
I'm getting around
silverfire
The total count of DHT is capped to around 310 if I recall correctly.
Firon
314.RocK, do you have a firewall? You need to allow uTorrent UDP access for DHT to work.
runrunrun
cool!! thanks for the responses. now it's been a while since I used azureus (no harm intended towards utorrent I understand that it is still new) what were azureus' number on DHT peers?? 500,000???thanks againoneluv
Ultima
I can remember Azureus having 700,000+
Noodlez
Mine tends to say waiting to login or zero then goes right back to waiting to loginI del'ed the dat files and then it loged in and got 150, but it has sence gone back to the waiting to login or zero, and del'ing the dat file didn't fix it this time. MechR
Mine's usually around 200-250.
paritybit
Here is the thing. uTorrent says I have about 250 peers yet most of my torrents say they have got peers from DHT. So I can only assume that either the DHT peers I have just happen to download the stuff I like (most of it is pretty rare, only 5 or so peers on tracker) or that the number of peers it says is wrong. bkman
It is just a measure of how many nodes you are connected to, and not the size of the network.
kingnick
AFAIK only Azureus' DHT protocol keeps track of the approximate number of active clients globally; all Mainline DHT clients only keep track of the number of other DHT users you are connected to. From my observations Azureus' DHT protocol is superior to the Mainline DHT protocol in that it requires less bandwidth and is more efficient overall, I would say both DHT networks are about the same in scale/size but there isn't any way to get an exact number of the users on either DHT network at the one time.Personally I prefer Azureus' DHT network but the Mainline DHT gets the job done and so fore fills it's purpose, hopefully we will one day see the Azureus DHT protocol implemented into µTorrent but I highly doubt it because of the different ways the protocols work and their conflicting issues. 1c3d0g
It may be possible for Mainline to combine Azureus' DHT specs with their own, but that of course is up to Bram Cohen and team to decide. We'll just have to wait and see...
slayers
It is just a measure of how many nodes you are connected to, and not the size of the network.Perhaps uTorrent should alter the text from "peers" to "nodes" then. It is only natural that people will compare clients and those familiar with Azureus will think that number is in direct relation to what Azureus shows. It's even in the same place in the GUI My point is that it makes uTorrent look inferior to Azureus in regards to DHT. This has absolutely nothing to do with reality but perception only. There are far too many misinformed users that don't have a clue of what DHT is or how it is measured.
1c3d0g
That's not a bad idea, slayers. Hopefully Ludde/Vurlix will comment on this...
RocK
RocK, do you have a firewall? You need to allow uTorrent UDP access for DHT to work.i open the ports on my firewall and router. using upnp too. using port 53456.the think is on another pc, same software setup, same network, using port 53400, same utorrent setup.just start utorrent even before download or uploading, it shows 220+ peers at peek. stable around 180+ peers.the problem pc i have is the same as "Noodlez"dunno wat gives. try everything. hope someone has a fix.. Ankmin
Do yiu need to allow utorrent UDP access for DHT to function properly (I haven't done it yet as I thought Ludde said it wasn't necessary). Though it seems to work perfectly at da mo, using it to download a torrent now where the tracker is down. Great job btw Utorrent team!
Firon
Yes, you have to allow UDP for uTorrent in your firewall, else it won't work. Forwarding isn't necessary, but it makes DHT work better.Azureus doesn't keep track of the number of users, it just estimates the number of users on the network based on the bucket density. rafi
It may be possible for Mainline to combine Azureus' DHT specs with their own, but that of course is up to Bram Cohen and team to decide. We'll just have to wait and see...A note about DHT - It is BAD for us - users - that there are 3 DHT networks (that I know of) - mainline (showing 300 connected nodes) , Azureus (showing 700K+ total nodes), and bitcomet (showing 1300+ ??? nodes) . The more you split DHT, less peers are available to you. I think uTorrent (as well as the others) should have united... since this will not happen, I suggest that uTorrent devs will swap code with BC, and both will implement the two networks... Ultima
BitComet uses Mainline DHT, so technically, there are only 2 flavors of DHT.
1c3d0g
Wasn't BitComet's and Azureus' version of DHT the same? :/ I thought there were only 2... :|Edit: Ultima beat me to it...again!
Ultima
Also, Azureus is supposedly adding mainline support, though I have no idea in what form that'll be (will the peers be shared between both DHT networks, or will they remain disconnected and separate?). nozomi
Anyone know how can µTorrent connect to the DHT network without a working tracker in the initial phase? What I mean is that how can the clieint find the entry point of the DHT network without a hardcoded IP address (i.e. a tracker or a DHT node) connect to in the very first time? Form my experience, I really found µTorrent successfully connected to the DHT network without a working tracker... very interesting...
Ultima
I thought all of the DHT aware clients can connect to the network without any tracker? O.o
