zhrzh
I am 'unconnectable' on many trackers because I don't know how to fix the situation. The usual recommendation is to forward ports. I don't know how to do this so I tried the PFconfig app to automatically configure it but it asks me what router model I have. All I have is a modem installed by my ISP, a RCA dm325. Maybe it's a router too, I don't know, but the model is not on PFConfig's list of models. Please help if you can. Thanks
JLAF5150
Hi, Is that the correct Model Number as I was NOT able to find that model number, I also Googled it and Only found 3 search results none being it??
zhrzh
God, you're right, it's RCA DCM325. Next time I'll type more carefully despite my anxiety.Since that post I've fooled with my Zonealarm settings to no avail: I'm still "unconnectable" although I'm seeding some. Thanks for responding and hope you can help out.
JLAF5150
Well that appears to be Just a Modem. Did you test a port with the uTorrent Port Checker utility?? If you did what did it say?? Also try temporarily Turning off or Disabling Zonealarm and try to retest say port 10000. Do you have the Windows Firewall on as well it is ON by Default!! If you tried all the above it could possibly be your ISP Blocking the ports.
zhrzh
Port Checker: "Checking port 6881 on 66.234.33.227...Error! Port 6881 does not appear to be open. Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs."I allowed utorrent for Peerguardian, shut down Zonealarm, changed to port 10000 in utorrent. Windows firewall was disabled when Zonealarm was installed.I wish there was an app which could just fix unconnectables like me! Thanks.
Switeck
Have you tried uninstalling Zone Alarm and reactivating Windows firewall?(You'll need to make sure µTorrent is allowed in Windows firewall.)
zhrzh
I prefer ZA because it's also my anti-virus. I've been concentrating on that lately, looking for instruction, like this: http://portforward.com/english/routers/firewalling/ZoneLabs/ZoneAlarmProProgram/UtorrentIn.htm
Switeck
Is the version of Zone Alarm you're running the latest non-beta version?
zhrzh
I'm running the latest ZoneAlarm Security Suite version 7.0.
Switeck
Sounds like a series of Zone Alarm-made programs. There may be things to configure in each one to get µTorrent unfirewalled.
Don4570
Chiming in with the same problem. My port checker reported "Checking port 44659 on 67.142.130.43...Error! Port 44659 does not appear to be open. Please see www.portforward.com for more information about how to map a port. Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs. Those of you using ipfilter.dat should make sure the list does not include the website's IP. After making sure of this, re-run this test by refreshing the page (F5)."Previously my laptop ran uTorrent as fast as the input medium would allow. Hooking up to my Dad's DSL was nearly a religious experience. Today we installed Hughes Satellite Internet and my down loads have been dismally slow. Oddly the uploads are singing along. Just now with three torrents open/running I'm getting 5 kB/s down and 30 kB/s up. I'm running the firewall that came with XP and it has utorrent in its list of exceptions. I'm sure there's other data you need but that slices the top off to start. I've always gotten great speed from DSL, Internet cafes and even a buddy's house where he had a wireless network. This big slowdown is new. It's also a bummer. Satellite is not cheap.Oh, nearly forgot, I'm getting a Tracker Status for all three active torrents that says "No connection can be made because the target machine actively refused it." That's new too.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Switeck
Did you try Speed Guide (CTRL+G) and use the xx/256k upload bandwidth setting? That matches up with the 30 KiloBYTES/sec upload speed max you're seeing. If you don't leave some upload bandwidth free, you'll get all kinds of weird slowdowns and overloads.High max connections and high half open rates are probably not compatible with satellite connections either. Satellite is the "broadband" of last resort. It is only as fast as low-end DSL and has even worse upload bandwidth typically. Its latency is often horrible, just due to speed-of-light limitations of sending to a satellite in geosynchronous orbit. Round-trip times can easily be 1/2 second or more. Doesn't sound like much, till you try to do anything realtime. Even surfing websites will seem a little slow because the time it takes them to reply when you click on a link. Don4570
Actually I had the speed set on "xx/768k" last night and it more or less just stopped. Something is not right because I was able to download a 5.7M file in under a minute at the same time the uTorrents were grinding to a halt. Unfortunately (For broadband at least) we live in Amish farm country so DSL just isn't coming our way. I chose the highest end of home satellite packages and get about 1.5Mbps down. JLAF5150
Hi Don, the Problem with a Satellite connection is that they have Routers on there End Blocking the Incomming Data Before it Reaches you. That is the Way Satelite is setup other than getting a new ISP that is about all you can do. you could call your ISP and ask if they will Forward a few ports for you but they Probally will NOT !! Switeck
Don4570,You may have 1.5 megabits/sec download but your upload is ALMOST CERTAINLY only 256 kilobits/sec ...or less. So you really should be using the xx/256k or slower setting in Speed Guide (CTRL+G). Maybe you could tweak it slightly, but it would actually be best to reduce connections max rather than raising them.
MonstaDriva
why is it their routers don't block ftp , mirc and downloads from websites but they block utorrent ?
Ultima
Because they can pick and choose what they want to block. Because those file transfer methods don't require ports to be forwarded, and they can be used passively (meaning you make the outgoing connection; you don't have to take incoming connections). simonwong1989
May I ask which Zonealarm firewall you have?Is it the Pro verison? If it is, you can port forward it (http://portforward.com/english/softwarefw/ZoneAlarmPro/ZoneAlarmProindex.htm)
