redjohnboy Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Right at the bottom of the page of my utorrent program it says 'Download Limited'. and next to the green tick which indicates that my network connection is working like it should I have the following - D:(12K) followed by my download speed which is normally about 11.9 Kb/s. my port is open, I have no error. and my download limit was set to unlimited, I have just changed it to 1000Kb/s but the message at the bottom of the page STILL states download limited with D:(12K)Why am i only getting a maximum of 12 Kb/s download speeds?Has anyone got any ideas?redjohnboy
Switeck Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 It is kept proportional to your upload speed. If you set your upload speed too low, your download speed is hindered...possibly immensely.
Ultima Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Do tell, what kind of connection are you using? How fast is it in terms of download and upload?
Lord Alderaan Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 afaik its a anti-leech feature: If you limit your upload below about 7kb/s 6kb/s your download will be limited accordingly.
redjohnboy Posted April 24, 2007 Author Report Posted April 24, 2007 WOW! Cheers everyone. i had my upload limit set at below 5 Kb/s. I have adjusted it to unlimited, and my download limit also to unlimited, and what a difference it made. the initial message at the bottom of the page disappeared, and my download speeds changed from around 11.9 Kb/s to around 40 Kb/s. I know it also depends on the amount of seeds/peers but it made a big difference. I am relatively new to this so am still learning. Thanks for the advice, if you have any more hints or tips I would be eternally gratefulredjohnboy =)
Ultima Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Uh, the speed is not dependent on the number of seeds and peers in the swarm. Do read the setup guide, as your settings are still incorrect. You never answered my question either.
redjohnboy Posted April 24, 2007 Author Report Posted April 24, 2007 UltimaFirst of all thanks for your interest.i have checked the user guide and thought my settings were correct. i did a speed test and results came back as follows:(using the speakeasy Palo Alto CA speed test) Latency to Server 676 Msdownload speed 1685 Kb/sUpload speed 151 Kb/susing the flash8 plugin based speed testI'm not quite sure what you mean when you ask what my connection is,according to the pop up box that displays where i can test my speeds and port it just says 'current settings'i have a netgear router DG834GT, and sky is my broadband providerwhen i do a test on my port the test comes back saying ok the port is open for connectionsredjohnboy
Switeck Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Run Speed Guide (CTRL+G), the closest upload setting to your upload of 151 kilobits/sec is xx/128k...but you could increase the upload speed by 1-5 KiloBYTES/sec and upload slots to 4 if you wanted better results. Or just leave upload slots 3 and check use more upload slots if upload speed <90%. If you wanted to eek a little more download and upload speed out, you could probably reduce global and per torrent max connections down to 30...and also reduce half open connections max in advanced settings from the default of 8 to 4.Just make sure you get the green light! That allows just-started torrents to ramp up to speed as much as 10 times faster than if you're firewalled, and allows you to download+upload to LOTS more seeds and peers...assuming there's lots more on the torrents you're on.
Lord Alderaan Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Yeah wasn't sure of the exact value myself so I added the 'about' I'll fix it.
