Patching TCPIP.SYS

What is a good value to net.max_halfopen if I patched TCPIP.SYS as is in the FAQ?

The first time I patched I didn't make any changes to the net.max_halfopen that is in the options. Now I set to 25, could I set to more? let's say 49? What I will gain with this?

All day today my downloads are very slow, after I patched in about an hour I conclude 2 or 3 downloads.

I patched and then today I see that all my downloads are very slow, so I tried to patch again just to see, and it was not patched. When happen a crash or something like, windows will replace TCPIP.SYS with the original? In what cases should happen this replace?

Yes my thread is a litle bit confused.

Leaving TCPIP.sys alone if you don't absolutely need to touch it is generally good enough for most people, but due to the load of misinformation passed around t3h internets, people think that it's *required* of users to patch TCPIP.sys. If you absolutely feel you need to patch it, then patch it to something like 20, and leave net.max_halfopen at 8.

But that FAQ is a litle bit confused: I am using Win XP SP2 and I though that everybody need to patch and I patched to 50 open connections and put net.max_halfopen at 25.

Maybe I am wrong about the speed I am having now, because the time, I think now I have more bandwidth.

Thanxs, better back to origin tomorrow.

Hm? In what way is the FAQ confus(ed|ing)...? It only suggests that you patch TCPIP.sys if you are having connection issues, and correctly states that net.max_halfopen needs to be set to less than the TCPIP.sys limit (granted, it could've been a bit more specific as to what the maximum limit for net.max_halfopen should be, but it's still not confusing -- IMHO).
