HexusOdy
Hi guys,I recently switched from Bitcomet to uTorrent and find it a much better program. Really loving it. Apart from one thing.....Since I installed it my system will turn itself off randomly and reboot. Not shutdown, I'll be working away and when uTorrent is running it will occasionally just shutdown and restart. When windows reloads I get a fatal error message. At first I didn't associate it with uTorrent, but after trying various other things I decided to turn uTorrent off (I normally have it running automatically for seeding) and since then Ive not had a single problem.Since I instaled uTorrent last Thursday its rebooting at intervals between 30 minutes and a few hours. I stopped running uTorrent last night until about 1 hour ago and didn't have a single reboot. An hour ago I reenabled it and within 30 minutes it rebooted. The machine is only seeding so its not some option to turn off when a download is complete and Im pretty certain now it is uTorrent causing the fatal error. I'm running the 1.7 Beta and Im going to try going back to 1.6 to see if that helps. If you require any more info let me know.
DreadWingKnight
Did you try turning off the automatic restart on system failure to get the real culprit?
HexusOdy
I have now.It may not be uTorrent but at the moment its the only thing that fits. Ive spent 3 days trying every other option, turning off recently installed programs one by one, checking memory and PSU for errors etc etcThe problem persisted through them all and only stopped when I turned off uTorrent, then started again within 30 minutes of turning it back on.I've now gone back to 1.6 and its currently running. I'm going to leave it running non stop for next 24 hours to see if the problem is still there. If it doesn't return I'll go back to 1.7 Beta and see if it returns and what the BSOD says if it does.Update************I'm still having the same issue with 1.6, although with the BSOD now showing I can see the problem is a Page Fault in a Nonpaged Area. Which is my experience can be anything, including software. All I can do is log how often it fails with UT running and if it doesn't when its not running. Firon
It's a very non-specific error. It can be anti-virus programs, bad drivers, bad RAM, or other faulty hardware.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/183169/en-us
k1d
urm...regarding this matter.. i want ask sumthin since i couldnt find any related material on the net niether the FAQ manual....how to avoid our downloaded files becoming unreliable and how to detect any corruption in every single pieces and bits when suddent crash / BSOD occur... since we cant predict how the computer behave... so any precoutions step will become soo important to avoid data corruption and becoming unreliable.for exmple.. i think user must know ... either they can suddently push restart button or not during downloading process... or do anything else which can lead to BSOD / suddent crash while the uTorrent is in downloading mode..and what happend if.. user forcely kill uTorrent process ( from windows task manager ) ... what happend to the downloaded files?besides, im curios tho. how uTorrent ensure evry bits and pieces is intact from one seeder to another.sorry. kinda a newbies question thanks in advance for any help.. HexusOdy
Oi don't hijack my thread uTorrent does an integrity check if the PC turns off or crashed while downloading. Next time it loads up it checks the files before starting again. With regards to my problem I'm now almost certain its uTorrent causing the crashes. It may be because its conflicting with something else, and it might be the something else actually causing the crash. But its the addition of uTorrent with it thats kicking it off. There are similar instances now I have searched for Page Fault, uTorrent and NOD32 being one. But Im not running that or anything else on the incompatible list so its something else yet to be discovered.
Ryan Norton
@ HexusOdyCould you dump your list of running processes and let me know what Windows version you are using? The more information the better , thanks in advance!
HexusOdy
I can do that. I'll post it shortly.I also found a thread here - http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=9675There are a few people on there having the same problem, most of them are on page 2 and 3. Might help get to the culprit.Update*********I'm running Windows MCE 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)==================================================Process Name : alg.exeProcessID : Switeck
Zone Alarm is KNOWN to cause µTorrent and other file-sharing programs problems.Norton doubly so. I see also AVG7 by GRISOFT. Multiple antivirus programs running at once could remotely cause problems...at the least they will slow your computer down for very marginal additional protection. What's with C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BWPlugProtocol-8876480.dll file wanting to use 20+ seemingly garbage-named protocols?Nothing else really stands out.PS: It's best to point to one thread with links instead of posting pages-long HijackThis logs in multiple places. It'll make any help you receive more likely to be able to work together to help you too.
stopping
last night i install back 1.7 beta build 1875 and my pc restart just 15min later. so i try uncheck pre-allocate all file in utorrent and now my pc is still running (11hour).i will uninstall Zone Alarm to try it out. for logitech and AVG7 i being using it since utorrent 1.5.xx so it should be okthank Switeck on the infor. if feel good to use utorrent
Hazman
OK, I'm also having this problem and the main similarity apart from the problem is ZoneAlarm. I'm using uTorrent 1.6.1 and I'm getting exactly the same issue - uTorrent's all happy happy for an hour or two and then BAM reboot/critical error. I haven't had it with the reboot switched off yet but I assume it'll be the same problem.Hex - have you tried what stopping suggested and switched off pre-allocate all files? I haven't had a chance to test this yet (will try tomorrow) but hopefully it'll solve the problem.
frize
I have similar critical problem and create a threat here: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=327723#p327723adminstrator! if u want please merge my threat with this threat!I use utorrent from version 1.6 for 1 year without any problem!(with zonealarm pro installed in my pc) !!!!!But now after upgrading ,my system crash in 30 min to a few hours!I change my hardware more than 3 times: HDD,RAM,CPU,VGA,POWER without any successI change my download manager and reinstall windows, buy professional version of windows and install it (clean install) but problem persist!I think utorrent is culprit for this crime!!!!!!!!!!!!I spend more than 175 euro for correcting this problem for new devices/windows pro and more.I Love utorrent, I want use it! No other huge size clients such as A... or B.....!!!!!
Firon
Zone Alarm is the cause of that. It's a firewall that causes problems with virtually all P2P apps in existence and crashes the system because it runs in the kernel and is poorly coded. You must uninstall it. frize
But I use utorrent simultaneous with zonealarm for 1-2 years without any problem!anyway! porblem solved if I use outpost firewall?
Firon
Outpost will work fine. So will Comodo (and Comodo is free).
frize
Well, but outpost block some trackers!I find one important issue: I change my cpu from dual core to my old single core CPU. problem solved and my utorrent work fine also with existance of Zonealarm. my system work since 3 days ago without any fatal error or reset! please note i don't make any change in software/hardware. this soft/hard have several fatal error when my cpu is dal core! and without any change i change only my CPU!I believe this fatal error is because of utorrent can't work correcly in dual core CPUS
jewelisheaven
uT reportedly works fine on multi cores without incompatible software installed. I'd bet if you uninstall Zone Alarm uT would work with no hiccups on your dual-core chip.
frize
uT reportedly works fine on multi cores without incompatible software installed. I'd bet if you uninstall Zone Alarm uT would work with no hiccups on your dual-core chip. But i doubt about it. because I change only my CPU from E2160 to Celeron without any change in my soft/hard and problem solved. but when i change form celeron to dual core, problem occur again ( immediately). jewelisheaven
Right. other device drivers or software may not work with dual core. You got your response in the other thread. Ultima pokes at uT more than most of us. Either stick with single core, or try without ZoneAlarm on your system.
Firon
Outpost doesn't block anything unless you configure it to.Like I said before, the problem is with Zone Alarm. Switch to another firewall.
frize
Finally i find problem, it's Zonealarm victim!!!!
