download
I downloaded uTorrent and its running nicely (pretty little thingy). But why is this?!!!!! WHYYYY!!!!!I downloaded a 4.95 GB torrent and now it has reach 4.95 GB on my HD. But in uTorrent it shows the stats that i still hav 50% 2.39 GB left to GO!!!!!... WHATHA F_CK?!!! I cant understand this unique problem. Is my file completed or what?!Right when i started downloading it was like this. I just thought! that once i reach 4.95 GB on my HD the inaccurate stats in uTorrent would just stop and that would be all good. Maybe it was just some bug in uTorent. LOL!!!!!!!!!! its actualy moving like F_CKEN snial but the problem is i have already downloaded 4.95 GB on my HD and uTorrent is still displaying past statusWhich one should i trust? The gragical uTorrent or the physical GBs on my HD?Please helpThanks
Firon
The entire file is allocated when a single piece is written to the file.I don't see why this is a problem, you're going to use the entire 4.95GB in the end anyway
Ultima
Odd, I tried to reply to this thread (with the same exact answer as Firon) only to find PunBB telling me that the thread was nonexistent... but now it's back O.o

Ultima
µTorrent allocates (reserves space for) the files on the hard drive before it actually downloads all of the data. The reason for this is that the files are less fragmented, meaning marginally faster seek times and less disk access. If you have a torrent for a 100MB file, and you begin to download it, µTorrent will first create an empty 100MB file, then start writing to that reserved space. The same applies to the 4.95GB file you have.
Firon
When you download any part of the file, ALL the space is reserved for that file instantly.
download
...Oh guys... You guys are awesome. I didnt have a clue about that lol. Well i guess nothing is wrong with uTorrentBut its does suck because i thought the downlaod was already completed hours ago lol. Ill just have to wait. But tell me how fast is 50.0 KB/s? Shouldnt that take less than 10 hours to download a 4GB file?
Firon
It all depends on the speed of the other peers in the swarm.

chaosblade
Looks at the "Wasted" label in the general tab too. You might have had alot of failed hash pieces (read: bad data).
Ultima
A 4.95GB file (assuming you download exactly that amount only, and are downloading at a perfectly constant speed of 50.0KB/s) takes 28.83584 hours to finish. Not exactly less than 10 hours, if you ask me ;P
