CyberWasted Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 I've been using Utorrent successfully for quite some time. Never really had a major problems until now. Problem is DHT (Which is: Enabled, as well as all the appropriate boxes checked Under: Additional BitTorrent features, menu), has stopped functioning as of the last 2 - 3 days. I haven't changed any settings. The DHT indicator "logs in" getting "1 nodes". From there it attempts to "update" the DHT nodes i.e increase the number (which used to eventually sit at close to 230 nodes!!) but always fails sitting on "1 nodes" then frequently tries to update, getting nowhere. Utorrent never seems to actually connect to any DHT connections. This is frustrating the hell out of me as I am out of ideas on how to fix. Any ideas? Thanks.

CyberWasted Posted May 23, 2007 Author Report Posted May 23, 2007 Ok, so I performed the said actions as suggested, deleted DHT DAT & DHT OLD DATfrom the utorrent program folder and downloaded the suggested torrent from utorrent. Worked ok for a one off go. DHT seemed fixed. But yet again tonight the same problem has stared occuring, (0 DHT:) And the attemted fix using the same above technique no longer works. What I don't understand is why has this started to become a problem when I never had this problem in the past. Any ideas how to permanently fix this. And to add insult to injury now my down arrows are red and I'm getting HTTP ERROR 502, but up arrows are green (WHAT THA F$#@!!!!!!) About ready to chuck in the Utorrent towel and try a more user friendly program. Shame as its been a mostly good program until now!Any input much appreciated.
DreadWingKnight Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 And to add insult to injury now my down arrows are red and I'm getting HTTP ERROR 502These errors aren't uTorrent errors. They're tracker errors that uTorrent is passing along. What software firewall do you have installed? What antivirus?Do you have peerguardian or protowall installed?
CyberWasted Posted May 23, 2007 Author Report Posted May 23, 2007 Firstly, thanks for responding!Don't use a stand alone, only windows firewall which is configured.Avast! is my antivirus of choice. (This has worked well for me up until now. Have read that it can conflict with Utorrent. Any suggestions?)Peerguardian, yep. (Not a good idea?)Cheers.
DreadWingKnight Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 Bluetack blocklists interfere with uTorrent's DHT operations. Because of this, PeerGuardian is a "problem child".Try removing and re-adding torrents from opensource.depthstrike.com
CyberWasted Posted May 24, 2007 Author Report Posted May 24, 2007 Thanks for the suggestions. Have disabled Peerguardian, feeling a bit exposed to Big Brother though! Any ideas how to make Utorrent safer (besides not using Utorrent!!) to the eyes of the unwanted?Disabled avast! p2p filter which is tits on a bull, as its never picked up a virus while downloading the torrent pieces, only when doing a regular scan of the full file, go figure!Redownloaded from opensource.depthstrike.com.Well I'm up to 32 nodes, not 230 like previously but certainly an improvement on 0 - 1 nodes!!Cheers
Switeck Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 You can convert Peer Guardian's blocklist to work in µTorrent...or download only the level 1 ip list from BlueTack and use that.
CyberWasted Posted May 25, 2007 Author Report Posted May 25, 2007 Firstly, Thanks to all for their time in helping me sort out this frustrating turn of events so far!"You can convert Peer Guardian's blocklist to work in µTorrent...or download only the level 1 ip list from BlueTack and use that" (Switeck).Ok, I understand I need to create a text file of the relevant IP ranges I wish to block and insert them via text document into %AppData%\uTorrent. Problem is I,ve located the peer guardian block list but am unsure how to copy this (or open the list file as an intelligable actual list (INSTEAD OF: e.g 7z¼¯'V¶gûí4¾]ÉÜ»<N:9Pbq'êÏÈÉ9d±!•+7t4¶˜2¶äü.7¯„0®N¿VÛù¿dÍdÜ5RZÿÉ«žö†) and most importantly whaere %AppData%\uTorrent file is located. I've done a drive search but come up with nothing. Have downloaded the level 1 ip list from blue track. Is there any other way to utilize this than pasting a text file in %AppData%\uTorrent?Cheers
DreadWingKnight Posted May 25, 2007 Report Posted May 25, 2007 http://utorrent.com/faq.php#What_is_AppData.3F
CyberWasted Posted May 25, 2007 Author Report Posted May 25, 2007 Will pasting this block ip list still work even if the names of the blocked companies are left infront of the ip ranges in the text list and do I need to do anything more to ensure these are effectively blocked by Utorrent? Hopefully my last question for a long while!Cheers
walterneff Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 I don't know if this helps but here's what I did and it worked for me.First I read Depthstrike's comments at the TOP of this post...http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=11069I tried what Depthstrike had said and when I got to the third point on Depthstrike's list, I deleted EVERYTHING from %appdata%\utorrent (I made a backup first, just in case, of course)Yes there are problems with this, the main one is that just about everything in utorrent resets, BUT the main and joyous thing is that it's now working fabulously. Bottom line, I really don't think it's a firewall problem.
DaveInTexas Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 Cyberwasted, DHT failure happened to me, too. This is the fix I found (somewhere on the web}:Start Peerguardianstop all internet activityblock HTTP with PG, then access the utorrent sitethe resulting blocked IP's would be associated with Utorrent and its DHT operations. right click and allow the IP's permanently.Dht has worked fine ever since.Good luck,Dave
