Osama Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 While uTorrent isn't using even one tenth of my down speed and around half of my upload, browsing in firefox and internet explorer is a slow crawl, often ending in timeouts. I can't even login to msn messenger while downloading. It didn't used to be like this, just started today. I even did a speed test with uTorrent off, so it isn't my connection (when I tried running it while utorrent was on, the test wouldn't load).Help?

Switeck Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 What's the BANDWIDTH of your connection, both down AND UP?What settings are you using in µTorrent, as shown by the Speed Guide (CTRL+G) window?

Ultima Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 BAD settings. Read the Speed Guide's instructions and select the correct UPLOAD speed. Clearly, you didn't bother reading the first link in my signature -- makes me wonder why you're asking for help if you're not following suggestions.
Switeck Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 Horrendously bad to allow that many active torrents at once.
Osama Posted May 28, 2007 Author Report Posted May 28, 2007 I know I know 80%, but I've never had problems beforeAlso, I only have around 10 torrents running x.x
Switeck Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 10 torrents at once with 4 upload slots each?OUCH!You must really hate the other people on the torrents you get.Because if your total upload speed is only 15 KiloBYTES/sec...That means you're only uploading to other people at 0.375 KiloBYTES/sec on average.(15 KiloBYTES/sec upload speed divided by 10 torrents divided by 4 upload slots per torrent.)For your line, it's pretty much excessive to have more than 3 torrents going at once with 3 upload slots each....and I'm being generous to say that. (That's still less than 2 KiloBYTES/sec per person if total upload is only 15 KiloBYTES/sec.)
Osama Posted May 28, 2007 Author Report Posted May 28, 2007 Well I usually do around this with no problem...Eight torrents seeding, two leeching at the moment. What would be my ideal settings?
Switeck Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 May work 'ok' for you, but it's cruel to those on the same torrents. You're not even offering dial-up speeds to them. What I said is pretty close to absolute max for 15 KiloBYTES/sec upload speed:3 torrents max, 3 upload slots.Even that will be giving out less than 2 KiloBYTES/sec upload speed per person.
Ultima Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 What would be my ideal settings? Are you even reading our posts?
Osama Posted May 31, 2007 Author Report Posted May 31, 2007 Alright, even at two torrents leeching and one seeding, I still get extremely slow browsing and pages often don't even load. What can I do now?
Ultima Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Why do you bother asking for help if you're not even taking feedback?
Switeck Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Ultima's "Internet Interruption or Slow Speeds?" link talks about advanced and obscure settings that often *MUST* be changed to prevent slow browsing speeds on marginal networking hardware and software.
