Bouncer6 Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Ok first off, I see there is MANY threads in here, so thanks for taking the time to take a look at mine! Here is some info about my setup!ISP: BT (British Telecom)Connection : ADSL 6496kb/s down and 448kb/s up. (Reported at router)Router: Linksys WAG354G (Connected to PC via Eithernet cable, 2m long)uTorrent: Version 1.6.1 (Open NAT)OS: Windows XP HomeSide note: I have changed/hacked half open TCP connection in XP to accept 50 connections. I also changed the TCP connection in uTorrent to 50, however it makes no difference.Ok I WAS on a 2mb service from BT, it was their old service, had it for around 5 years, no probs, used to get around 100kb/s no problem with uTorrent(Running same setup as I am now). However, about 5 months ago I have upgraded to BT's new service, which I get just over 6mb downstream from! Now you would think it would be 10x faster, but for me now, uTorrent wont even get over 15kb/s, no matter how many connections, how long its downloading for. It just has no speed at all. My old line was WAY faster. My connection has been acting very strange! When I test my connection at www.speedtest.net, I get around 4mb down and just under 500kb/s up, which is ok considering data transfere length between me and the test server ect ect, of course it wont be the same as what my router is showing. But some times it can drop to as low as 800kb/s downstream, and it cant be their site or the test server as I notice I cant really play on Xbox Live without lag and my browsing goes all slow. It has to be MY connection. So I got onto BT, and they are trying to sort it. I dont think they will, waste of time me phoning them, couldnt understand the support staff, and they was asking me to do stupid stuff like reboot my PC....However, even when my connection is running like it should, 4mb down on the test server, I STILL get VERY slow downloads with uTorrent. 15kb/s MAX. Ive tried all different upload caps in uTorrent, from 6kb to unlimited. For example:(Click to expand)1) Any ideas on my connection, why its so "all over the place" with the speed?2) Any ideas on why all of a sudden ive changed to a "faster" line and now uTorrent downloads slow. I was getting faster speeds on my 2mb line! Thanks for your time and help, much appreciated! If you need anymore info, PC specs ect, please ask.(Sorry for the long post.)
Switeck Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 BT has officially admitted to throttling BitTorrent traffic, at least during evening hours ~6PM to midnight.
µtorrent-Guest Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 "2) Any ideas on why all of a sudden ive changed to a "faster" line and now uTorrent downloads slow. I was getting faster speeds on my 2mb line!"because, according to known complains by others, your ISP is known to throttle the line for Bittorrent traffic. They say he likes to sell the "up to x MB" lines to so many people and then he feels pissed if people actually wanted to use those speeds. Thats why he has FUP's in the fineprint of the contract that in effect says "You got a faster line now, but we can cripple it down if you use it much"with respect to your patching. Do not use 50 half open connections in µT. those conns have nothing to do with downlaodspeed in the first place and secondly you are not supposed to have the patched value and the µT used value the same! (and having so many half open conns just makes your ISP easier aware that you do filesharing which will result in throttleing your lineset µT back to the default number of HOC's if your upload is in the 400kilobits then choose CTRL+G -> xx/384k and hope they will take you off their "violates our Fair Usage Policy"-list.
Bouncer6 Posted May 29, 2007 Author Report Posted May 29, 2007 Ahh ok. Thanks for your posts.Well ive had it with BT now, I want to cancle my service with them.Ive been on the phone for 2 and a half hours now, mostly on hold.BT has the worst customer service I have ever seen.....
µtorrent-Guest Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 not intended as advertising by me, but how do you think sounds thisNo gimmicks, no small printWe don't impose hidden clauses, fair usage policies or restrict traffic such as P2P like many of our competitors do.(this is NO commercial advertisement by me, it's no click thru advert and I don't get anything from it! Just a .gif I stumbled over doing a google search about your throttleing ISP.)
Bouncer6 Posted May 30, 2007 Author Report Posted May 30, 2007 Wow, you know what thats who I just signed up for!I didnt even see your post untill now!
