extesy
uTorrent has a resource leak that after a few hours causes it to consume 100% CPU. Task Manager shows current handles count as 600000 and it's growing about 15 new handles / second. I am using WinXP SP2, Outpost Security Suite (disabling it doesn't help) and Kaspersky AntiVirus (disabling doesn't help).

extesy
No, these cases are not applicable here because there's obvious resource leak. When uTorrent starts it consumes about 600 handles. After a few hours this number raises to hundreds of thousands. So this 100% CPU load is not like on/off, instead it is raising very slow, proportionally to the amount of handles leaked. Ultima
Regardless, try uninstalling them. I've had µTorrent on for probably 8 hours now, and the handle count for µTorrent is at a mere 357 with CPU usage not even registering a blip in Process Explorer. extesy
Your uTorrent configuration is different - this might be a reason. I have several hundreds of torrent files - some of them also might have specific settings which cause this issue. I also use large ipfilter.dat file.Does it make sense if I send you all *.dat files from uTorrent folder - settings etc?
Ultima
Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, run it, File > Save, then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here. Third time, try uninstalling Outpost and Kaspersky to see if µTorrent continues to be problematic. We have people with well over a thousand torrents in their list, and they don't run into resource leaks. As for the ipfilter.dat... I'm not sure if it could be a cause, but I doubt it. In any case, if you want, you can try sending the contents of your settings directory to greg [AT] bittorrent [DOT] com along with a description to see if the devs can reproduce it. Or something. With the *possible* exception of diskio.flush_files, there is just about NO option that should affect how µTorrent handles handles, so it's *highly* doubtful it's a configuration issue. extesy
Ok, thanks, I'll try to uninstall anti-virus and firewall to see if that helps. If not, I'll send my configuration details to developers.
