Very fast in a browser, very slow in a torrent.

Hi there,

In utorrent, I've always had a yellow triangle and if it says anything, it's 'Network OK'... I'm using a router but I've never had to configure anything since the day I set it up... I don't use a proxy, I can play online games fine etc. I've tried all the speed guides I can find, but I rarely get above 5 kB/s, whereas downloading something from the web like winRAR gives me about 350 KB/s... notice the capital K (I am SUCH a noob sorry but I don't know if this means anything).

I get these results from www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest :

Communications - 853 kilobits per second

Storage - 104.1 kilobytes per second

1MB file download - 9.8 seconds

Subjective rating - Good

Test type - IDT4 Free

Connection type - ADSL

Region - United Kingdom

Data size - 1024KB

IP address - 83.148.144.45

Provider - Griffin

I'm on XP Home, my network adapter is a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC, Firmware Version: ETHADSL_USB_080902_REL9K, Customer Software Version: 080902_REL9K_N-ADDON

I use utorrents option for windows firewall to allow it, and also use Kaspersky Internet Security. Disabling either does not remove the yellow triangle.

www.portforward.com does not have my router (ADDON MC8000UE-S4 4 Ports ADSL router) - is it not port forwarding my problem?

My ISP has never interfered with my connection before and I don't have a download limit. I have the slow speed on any .torrent client too. Please help me increase it!

Thanks, jabba.

After calculations I set mine to 34 on utorrent...?

By the way on the port forward test I receive 'Checking port 32569 on 83.148.144.45...

Error! Port 32569 does not appear to be open.'...

And after fiddling around a few minutes ago, I remember disabling DHT and now my speeds are 20 kB/S... so now my question is, is this speed expected with my connection results or should it be faster?

Thanks, jabba.

Nothing against you, but I'm not sure I can believe that, considering how *none* of the Speed Guide presets will set your upload rate to 34KiB/s for you. If you *have* read it numerous times, then *do* follow the suggestions. Picking arbitrary settings *won't* help you.

Open Office gave me about 20 kB/s.. but my speeds now are around 50 kB/s, and even if this isn't taking advantage of my internet speed (I don't know if it is), I'm satisfied with this speed even with the worrying yellow triangle and sometimes red circle always on.
