Guest
So is is the new version(1.1.2) recommended for heavy usage yet, I hear there are some problems concerning hard drives being strained due to constant writing and reading. What IO settings are recommended for a pc with 256mb ram that is constantly being used to download and seed multiple torrents. For the record, I've been using utorrent for the last 2days without any problems. Thanks
Guest
Im using 4096kB and 750ms for those settings then it doesn't chew so heavily on my harddrive when downloading at my maximum speed which is 8mbit.Im not sure if this is a good option for anyone else but it's what im using right now. Ankmin
Thanks, I'm on a crappy 0.5 mbit connection, so I'll tune it down a notch. Thanks
Zebra
A guide/FAQ explaining the options would be cool... or just some suggestions to the advanced options according to ones connection. But I think that'll come later... hopefully . Don't think it's the top priority on the todo list .

Don't think it's the top priority on the todo list .The changelog clearly states that the cache options are not meant to be changed. They are mostly there to make the dev's lives easier. Since the dev's said not to change them, they probably won't release any documention about it.

There were some hard-drive problems for some users so i expect the dev's to expand on this topic further. The only thing that is stopping me from switching to utorrent completely is this - "µTorrent may be causing excessive disk thrashing in some few cases and may cause some hard drives to exhibit failure earlier than they otherwise would. This issue is considered top priority and will be alleviated in the next builds. It would be wise te refrain from using µTorrent intensively until that time"http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?t=79&highlight=disk+cacheI'm a heavy user so its quite important. NiteShdw
Note that the included Advanced Settings pane that was added in this version SHOULD NOT be modified; it is there for experimental use only!!Vurlix said that in the announcement for 1.1.

DaveBG
At 30mBit traffic (3+MB/s) too high HDD activity because of no disc cashe, even with 1 torent! How can i tweak it to make less read/writes? I can`t use my pc when large traffic no mater there is plenty of free RAM Remember HDD is NOT random access memory, it lags when random write/read like torrents are used! The value is in KiB." Set it to 80000 for ~80Mb disc cache,And set diskio.write_queue_size -1 (Default value)

1c3d0g
Yeah, better revive old threads than start a new one. Too much clutter otherwise... :/
