bmcbridester
I think I need to switch utorrent to an already open port. I don't have access to the router, so port forwarding is out of the question, sadly. I set it to an open port commonly used for MSN messenger, I think, but it's not getting decent speeds. Any suggestions? Also, yesterday, on a random port, download speeds jumped up to 80kbs/s for about 5 minutes, which is 5 times faster than I've gotten them to go all day today - same torrents. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...
Switeck
Are you on a hostile ISP that blocks or throttles BitTorrent traffic?
bmcbridester
yeah, probably, but I only found one firewall program, and changed the settings to allow utorrent....so I don't know. I might not know enough about my ISP to do anything about it, so hopefully this isn't wasting anyone's time...
Honeyfrog
A lot of torrents never trade any faster than 15-20k/s; compare yourself to other peers' "Peer dl" numbers. If you suspect your ISP, turn on protocal-encryption (Options > Preferences > Bittorrent). One of the worst culprits is "bad" trackers in multi-tracker torrents.
