Lord Alderaan
First make sure you have Pre-allocate all files disabled in the Downloads preferences. And make sure in the advanced preferences diskio.use_partfile is set to true. Now try starting the torrent again. If you haven't downloaded much of that torrent r-click on the torrent and chose Remove And -=> Remove Data and start the torrent again, this is to free up the space that was allocated before.Depending on the amount of piece overlap you still need more then 223 MB of free space (this might be a few kilobytes but could easily go into the megabytes). Switeck
Stop the torrent.Delete the files you don't need/want. (probably best done using Windows Explorer.)Change the torrent's setting to NOT download the unwanted files.Restart the torrent.

Ultima
Stop the torrent, right click, force re-check. Do you happen to be using any software that allows file undeletion, like Norton Systemworks/Utilities?

Ultima
What can I say? Your computer's being stupid if it's not seeing the space come back after you manually deleted the files.
