bigmog01
Hi All,I've been downloading a big file (4.44G) for a few days now. The torrent stats show that 90.7% has been completed, but also that I've downloaded 9.16G so far!How is this possible? I know there's a ceratain percentage that gets wasted by hashfails, but if that is the reason, then I've so far wasted more than the size of the complete file!I have suffered a few crashes and had to re-boot without closing down uTorrent, which on re-boot has necissitated the slow checking of the file before resuming the download, but surely that hasn't accounted for over 4Gig of hashfailed data.Any ideas as to why this ratio is so high??? Firon
A huge amount of hashfails because the torrent is poisoned, I bet.
bigmog01
What exactly do you mean by 'poisoned'?The torrent is actually for 12 episodes of xxxxxxx, and the ones downloaded so far all play back very well
Ultima
Poisoned as in "people are sharing bad data deliberately to disrupt the legitimate peers' ability to complete the file in any reasonable amount of time (if ever)."
bigmog01
oh, i get it now. is there any way to prevent this? perhaps deleting the trackers one by one, just in case some point to the bad data streams and others don't? is this even possible? Ultima
There are IP ranges known to poison swarms, most notoriously 38.100.x.x (I think). You can ban them using ipfilter.dat, or trying the 1.7 beta's bt.use_rangeblock to automatically ban entire ranges if enough peers poison from the same range. baf1
I have a question about the same thing...only I'm the owner of the torrent. I posted a torrent and have been seeding it...not one person has been able to finish downloading it though! I've had two or three peers reach 99.2% and that's as far as it gets...despite my PC still uploading crazy amounts of data. Out of 66MBs, I've uploaded 3.78GB so far...over 2GB to one peer alone... DreadWingKnight
baf1: stop the torrent, right-click and force a re-check.
