pihug12 Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Hello !I have peers that IP are 209.66.117.xxx.available.above.net or 209.133.122.xxx.available.above.net.Many of these IP are banned in the log and I have many errors "FAILED HASH CHECK".What is the problem ?pihug12
DreadWingKnight Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 That is a torrent poisoned by anti-p2p peers.
pihug12 Posted June 16, 2007 Author Report Posted June 16, 2007 Thanks for the quick answer !I tried three torrents (with a different tracker) of the same file and the result are the same.So I cannot have this file totally ?pihug12
Ultima Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Probably not. Go find it from somewhere else. Or something.
pihug12 Posted June 16, 2007 Author Report Posted June 16, 2007 These peers are added by Peer Exchange (Flags "D X").If I disable the peer exchange for this file, can it correct the problem ?pihug12
DreadWingKnight Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 http://utorrent.com/faq.php#What_is_ipfilter.dat.3F
pihug12 Posted June 16, 2007 Author Report Posted June 16, 2007 209.66.117.0 - 209.66.117.255209.133.121.0 - 209.133.121.255209.133.122.0 - 209.133.122.255That should be OK ?It seems to work good. The download is faster !pihug12 :cool:EDIT :In 30 minutes, there are about 30 failed hash check.Do you think I try to disable the peer exchange then clear peer list ?
Switeck Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 There are also innumerable hostiles in the 38.x.x.x range. I spotted at least one in your screenshot.
Switeck Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 PeerGuardian only tries to break connections AFTER they are made.µTorrent's internal ipfilter.dat will prevent them from being made in the first place for outgoing.
Firon Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 actually it doesn't let you make the connection at all.
Switeck Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Ok, but how do each handle incoming connections?
Ultima Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 I guess either one just take a look at the source IP, and if it matches any IP in the blocklist, it just doesn't respond to the connection attempt. Or maybe they respond with a "GTFO" or something
funchords Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 PeerGuardian just drops the packet. I do not understand the verdict that it is "useless."However, this person's torrent is likely junk from the beginning. Forget trying to complete it. Move on to a different torrent for whatever title you were seeking.
Firon Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 The blocklists are overly broad (tons and tons of legitimate peers blocked) and also forget something very important: IPs can change, and residential connections can and ARE used to do the same things it pretends to protect you from. Hence, PG2 is worthless.
Switeck Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Peer Guardian blocklists are not for privacy, only to reduce hash fails. But yes, they are too broad...and yet ironically too narrow (for the numerous hostiles in 38.x.x.x range for instance.)
