craig_utorrent
My network cards primary DNS is 64.116.x.y but uTorrent is testing for port forwarding on Checking port 60930 on 64.116.x.z...Error! Port 60930 does not appear to be open. What's the solution? This is a wireless connectionbetween my router and IP provider, in a rural part of the Republic of Panama, if that makes a difference.Linksys BEFW11S4Version: 1.50.14XP 2nd editonEdit (Ultima): IP hidden... Ultima
In general, you can't forward your ports with wireless services. The IP you saw on the port checker is the IP your ISP provided you with.http://www.utorrent.com/setup_guide.phpMake sure you've tried following the instructions here. Especially that part about NAT problems.
craig_utorrent
thanks for editing of my post.. what though do you mean "in general" you can't forward....That suggests to me that "some" are able to port forwardI'll study the NAT in the mean timethanks
Ultima
In general as in "most wireless providers don't allow port forwarding."
craig_utorrent
suppose my IP does allow port forwarding... any idea how I get my system to use the 64.116.x.z rather than the one it's using now?The dish on my roof receives the signal.. There's a ?modem? and then that's connected to my router. I'm just looking for some general idea of what doing what and where one address ends and the other address (the one my computer responds to ) takes over. Ultima
Your internet IP has nothing to do with port forwarding anyhow, only your LAN IP. The only thing left I can recommend you try is checking portforward.com.
craig_utorrent
oh...well then I misunderstood "In general as in "most wireless providers don't allow port forwarding." I thought when you said "wireless provider" you meant my IP. edited.. " IP internet provider vs ISP Internet service provider" one and the same to me... sorry for any confusion
funchords
No, "wireless provider" means your ISP ... whoever you pay for that 64.116.x.y address. In Options, Preferences, BitTorrent, there is a text box where you can put your 64.116.x.y address. Try that. If the indicator turns green (you successfully get incoming connections), then the only problem you really have is that the port test fails due to your unique situation. If the indicator never turns green, then you need to consult with your ISP as to why your Public IP address and your Local IP address are different -- or how do you open a port to receive incoming connections for IM, P2P, and etc.. craig_utorrent
you mean the field:IP/Hostname to report to trackeris intended for submitting my DNS address? 64.116.x.yI gave this a try and unfortunately...nothings changed. I'll have to talk with my ISP and see I can get a clearer understanding about the DNS address "ipconfig" sees and the DNS address that uTorrent is reporting
Ultima
This has nothing to do with DNS servers -- it's the IP address that matters.
arronrj
I have wi-fi internet, using Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4. Is it true that the reason I can't port forward is do to my wireless isp?
Ultima
Most likely, yes.
arronrj
I have been racking my brain for the last week trying to get it going and now I'm racking my sack because it has been a futile attempt all this time. This is just one more reason not to live out in the country. Thanks for the quick reply.
