funchords Posted July 4, 2007 Report Share Posted July 4, 2007 Modems don't use ports, so you don't have to open a port or do anything at all involving the modem. You should check to see if your computer's IP address (for the modem connection) matches your public IP. Go to www.whatismyip.com and see. If it doesn't match, then this is the problem and you have to solve it with your ISP.If it does match, then you are correct in suspecting some software on your computer -- either firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware -- is interfering. Ports are open by default, and those products can close them -- so you either need to configure them (recommended) or disable them. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
