bakergtr
okay guys, i need a real good tech head to solve my problems and it really is a mind twister (and no it isnt to do with ports before we go down that road)heres the situation:In the evening when ive just uploaded some torrents im trying to seed them the best i can, i proritize the torrents ive just uploaded and put all 300andsomething others on pause so that i can pick up some seeders quickly and hence get the stuff out there quickly. BUT my upload speed drops to 30% of what it usually is (30kB/s is my usual and maximum) and my internet truly dies, it takes 5 minutes to load a single internet page and my IRC lags to hell. it seemed to me that my upload was bottlenecking my whole internet connection, massively, so i set a cap on it, to 85% of what the max is, as suggested elsewhere. it didnt help. so i closed utorrent hoping to "clear it all out" 10 seconds after shutting utorrent my whole PC suddenly cutout, and this wasnt a freak accident, it did it every time i closed utorrent when the upload speed dropped. i got really annoyed and feared that i could end up destroying crucial hardware.i installed utorrent 1.6.1 stable (was previously on 1.7 beta) and to no avail it still does it, it still bottlenecks and shuts down on exit. i have tried and tested numerous settings i.e. connections per torrent, number of active torrents, etc etc. and it still isn't fixing anything and i still don't know why.i still end up with an internet connection that is approx. 1kbs dl and 10kbs ul which as you can imagine, is utterly pathetic. note: i dont use a router and my firewall is configured correctlyany help or pointers would be absolutely great as im totally stumped :/
Switeck
The Slow-Speed FAQ:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992...something in it is very likely to help you.
bakergtr
sorry to sound totally stupid, but what were you referring to within that thread?
Switeck
Well, unless you have an OC-3 (about 45 megabits/sec down and up) or faster line...you probably cannot sustain more than 20 torrents without problems. That FAQ has procedures for narrowing down what's causing your problems. silverfire
Switeck: OC3 is 155mbps both ways. DS3 (also known as T3) is what you're thinking of - that's the one that's 45mbps.
