DannyKazaa Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 I have an internet traffic monitor as part of my firewall software.Have only just installed uTorrent and haven't even started to look for or use a .torrent file.In fact, I have never used torrent software before.I did one test download with "done-the-impossible.torrent" which worked very well. I then stopped the torrent after a short time and closed uTorrent. After I started uTorrent again, I noticed the following.Even though I'm not "down-loading" anything, the traffic monitor is registering traffic. When I exit uTorrent - Traffic stops. When I start uTorrent - traffic starts. uTorrent itself shows downloads in status bar of about 100 kBs every minute/two minutes or so.Another process monitor shows uTorrent conected to TCP/IP about 20 IP addresses and no other program is showing a TCP/IP listing. So, there is no mistake that it is uTorrent accepting incoming traffic. Is this normal ? Because to tell the truth I'm not real comfortable with unsolicited incoming or outgoing traffic.
µtorrent-Guest Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 That is very likely the DHT traffic you see.And I wouldn't classiy incomming traffic on µTs listening port as "unsolicited" since your IP is part of the swarm, and therefor it is normal that you get incomming connection attemps on that port from other peers that got your IP from the tracker.
DannyKazaa Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 ThanksSorry, but don't understand the "listening port" thing very well. I will try to learn more as I go.But from what you have said all this is normal and reasonably safe (well! As safe as they can be nowadays)Thanks again - and, your english is fine. I fully understood what you meant to say.
µtorrent-Guest Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 listening port is that port of your computers +65000 that µT uses to "listen" for "calls" from other computers. It's the one you could specify in CTRL+G Stage 2)
