stinkymojo Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 I downloaded a torrent from this tracker some weeks ago having been forced to join the place for free, to get a password. However, yesterday I received this message that as of 1st August 2007, anyone using utorrent 1.7 as their client will be barred.I won't be dropping my 1.7 version as they suggest unless anyone can tell me what problem they have with it. 1.6 Good 1.7 Baaaad????
stinkymojo Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 Yes I wondered that too but the .2 version isn't mentioned at all so I can't tell you at the moment, I'm trying to find out if they have a forum to explain the problem, but cynical me thinks there's a financial reason at the heart of it but I can't think what. I'll update if I find anything out.
Firon Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Banning 1.7 and 1.7.1 is acceptable, but not 1.7.2.
stinkymojo Posted July 29, 2007 Author Report Posted July 29, 2007 That's their policy, anything after 1.6.1 is barred.
DreadWingKnight Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 Our policy, anything older than current is unsupported. Can they justify their ban?
stinkymojo Posted July 29, 2007 Author Report Posted July 29, 2007 Their justification is that the tie up with Bittorrent makes utorrent part of the evil empire which must be crushed. Justification is a bit technical but feel free to peruse it http://abetterplace2b.org/abp/forum_posts.php?action=viewtopic&topicid=2148And this is intended to inform not advertise the site, I really don't get it.
Ultima Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 If they won't unban 1.7.2, then tell them to ban 1.6.1 too. After all, BT Inc had their hands all over the code for several months before it was released. *gasp*I guess users are then left with the exploitable 1.6. zomg.
