mclinusa Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 If this is a repeat of another post, then please direct me to the solution.Context: Sometimes I need just one file from a torrent that has multiple files. When I select a middle file, say file #6 (out of a torrent with say 10 files) to download and skip all the rest, I find that file #6 does not "hash" or appear in the download folder when it reaches 100%. I have tried to do a Force Hash Check, which shows a 100% for file #6. Still the file does not show up. Before, I had unchecked "Pre-allocate all files", but now I do check that option. Either way, the results come out the same -> no "middle" file appearing upon download completion.Problem: I find that I have to go and download file #1-5 before file #6 would appear. Is there a way to make #6 appear without having to download the others? Is that even possible?
ajones81 Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Of course it's possible.Which uTorrent version are you using? Did the feature ever work for you?In any case, if Force Check doesn't flag any errors and the torrent is shown to be downloading data (you can check the status of the specific file on the Files tab), then it has to be somewhere, right?
mclinusa Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 I am using 1.7.2 (build 3458).The Files Tab says it is 100%, though that middle file does not show up on the specified download folder. In older versions, I never had this problem. I cannot remember when this issue started, because I mostly just get everything in the torrent. I have tried to do a search thinking it might be in some Temp folder, but that did not work either. Where does utorrent keep it's data cache? I tried the usual places, like Documents and Setting, temp folders, etc. but still nothing. My utorrent seems to be forming the files sequentially. Hence, it would very slowly make file #1 show up, like it was downloading the file, before it moves to file #2. This does not mean that file #1 has completed the download. It would take forever before it get to file #6, which was the first to get fully downloaded according to the Files Tab.
fujairahman Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Hi,Try this using version 1.7.2:1. Select torrent.2. Go to the FILE tab.3. Select the file you want to download first.4. Right click and set the file's priority to high. Leave the rest on normal. Once the file has completed downloading (100%), double click the file. This should open the file, no matter which location it's in. The other files of the torrent don't even have to finish downloading. It always works for me, I hope it works for you too.Cheers...
mclinusa Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 I figured out the solution:In Options > Preferences > Advanced, the setting for bt.compact_allocation was set to "true". This setting makes utorrent not create a file upon first downloading. I think it puts the downloaded stuff into a cache somewhere. Once I set it back to bt.compact_allocation= false, then the files were created. Thanks for the assistance.
Ultima Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 bt.compact_allocation really shouldn't be used, since it's buggy (TBH, I'm not really sure why the option's still there :|).
