Yellow Light with new D-Link DIR 655 router

I am unable to get past a yellow light when I do port forwarding for utorrent on D-Link DIR 655 website interface. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but even though this is a new computer for me (DELL XPS 410 with Vista), I was able to configure my new computer with no problems with utorrent when the computer ran directly to my isp's modem (westell 6100). It was only since I installed the D-Link DIR 655 wireless router (that I connect to with an ethernet cable) that this problem occurred and I have spent 2 days trying to figure it out.

When I test my port forwarding I get this error message:

-------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the µTorrent Port Checker.

A test will be performed on your computer to check if the specified port is opened.

Checking port 63796 on 68.211.x.x...

Error! Port 63796 does not appear to be open.

Please see www.portforward.com for more information about how to map a port.

Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs. Those of you using ipfilter.dat should make sure the list does not include the website's IP. After making sure of this, re-run this test by refreshing the page (F5).

--------------------------------------------------------------

For some reason it is looking for my isp IP address instead of my router's.

Here are the settings I have for my Windows IP Configuration:

Somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong. Is it because the IP routing in windows is set to "no"? I don't understand why it will upload, but not download. I am really not that knowledgable about computers and it seems like everything with Vista is taking 10x as long to figure out. If you need further settings, please let me know. I am pulling my hair out here!

Best wishes,

Amber

Ultima: External IP edited out :o

Your internal LAN IP really doesn't need to be censored; it's your external WAN (ISP-given) IP that needs to be censored (which I have already done for you).

Anyhow, if you have any firewalls installed, you'd best be telling us :)

Your modem (the Westell) is also a router, so you're in a double-NAT situation. Read the manual's advanced port forwarding guide (second link in my signature) for more information on it, and how you need to get around it. If you have any questions about what this or that may mean, feel free to ask.

Thank you for your help. I didn't know what needed to be censored so thank you for telling me. I disabled my windows firewall totally and my Macfee Security has utorrent cleared. I was thinking after reading through some more posts that it may be a double NAT situation and was looking up how to repair it last night before I finally gave up and went to bed. I will read the manual and see if I can fix it. thank you so much!

It may be a better idea that you temporarily uninstall McAfee and enable Windows Firewall while you perform the port forwarding, as McAfee may still be configured improperly. Uninstalling it would be to eliminate that possibility (so that it doesn't get confusing while forwarding in the modem/router).

na... Mcafee is not a problem, because Mcafee auto adds any bittorrent clients* to allow list... they are smart.. unless he is using the older version or is not up to date.. and ya if it dosn't auto add then It will ask u to add it just click on allow full access, if u block it ur stupid and should go to the setting any give it full access again.

Thanks Robin, yes I am using the newest version of Mcafee, so I don't think it is a problem or I would have been prompted like I have with other programs that weren't included. I am working on disabling the router function in my modem right now. I am assuming according to the help page for my isp that I need to bridge the modem to do this. Is this correct?

That's not the point. Trying to eliminate possible problems is a basic troubleshooting technique. To say "no, don't do it" is like saying "just don't help the person with their problem, or just play guessing games later when ambiguous results come."

Just uninstall it -- the keyword was temporarily, after all.

  • 3 months later...

I have the same problem with this crappy Xtreme N router. I have no firewalls installed or anything.

It worked perfectly fine with my XtremeG router but not with this N

I even followed the portforward.com guide to the letter... still no go. A solution would be greatly appreciated.
