lolername Posted August 2, 2007 Report Share Posted August 2, 2007 Alright, so a coupla days ago i was downloading a torrent and after a few minutes it gave me the message Error:process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. I thought it had something to do with the torrent I was downloading, and since i didnt really want it in the first place, i stopped the download. Yesterday I wanted to download another torrent and the same thing happened: the torrent works for a minute or so, and then the Error message pops up and the torrent stops. I went to the help section of uTorrent and it directed me to a site. I have tried everything its recommended. I don't have Google desktop or MSN desktop so it cant be that. I have turned off McAfee for a few minutes to see if it was the real time scanning that was causing the problem,(it was working before and I didn't have any problems then). That didn't help. Then I went to the folder properties of the destination folder and turned off the read-only option as well as the indexing in the advanced section. That didn't help either.Besides, every time I untick the read-only and apply it to the entire folder and subfolders, the next time I look at the properties, read-only is ticked.I don't know whats the deal with that. (I was at a friends house and checked his folder,they are read only as well, and he isn't having problems). I got Vista a few months ago, and uT was working perfectly on it, but I recently upgraded to 1.7.2 and I thought maybe it was some kind of compatibility issue with Vista, so I found the previous uT 1.7.1 and downloaded it and the same error message plagues me. So then I changed the destination folder, thinking that maybe the process in question was affecting the folders in the Documents folder. No dice. I scanned my computer with Spybot, hoping that the problem was some kind of malware that kept scanning my folders to see what I was up to. Spybot found a few entries, and I deleted them, but the same error message. I have spent about an hour staring at my process in the task manager trying to figure out which one of them was giving me the problem. I finally settled on the Windows Media Player network sharing feature, and I turned it off. Error. I think thats everything. I ran out of ideas. I'm thinking that I should dl a different torrent manager, although I don't think that will help. Can somebody please offer some advice. As you can see, I have tried pretty much everything. I have seen it do this many times to the secondary drive on my system... as long as it is a partition on my main drive where vista is located it works fine but as soon as I try to save anything to the other drive it says that exact same message... torby Posted August 4, 2007 Report Share Posted August 4, 2007 Same problems as lolername here, tried same ´solutions´, no result.working on vista behind router on static ip, firewalls killed ex mcafee with utorrent allowing.Looks like download is starting then connection closes, reconnects, download starts for a few secs. this keeps on repeating, nothing really happens except also internet at same time is sloooooow.Pls advise how to kill roxio indexer (pls in simple terms, don´t understand too much of technics)and what to do with phishing? could this hurt?tx! thesisko99 Posted August 4, 2007 Report Share Posted August 4, 2007 All you need is to remove it from the startup list by running MSCONFIG -- Restart the system afterwards and you should be good... as for the start, stop nature of your downloads... likely there is something else taking over the connection... cause I am using utorrent here with Vista and am having no problems except for the one I already mentioned... MiaGunrunner Posted August 6, 2007 Report Share Posted August 6, 2007 Not bit torrent specific but i use Unlocker Assistant and if i see a message like that in Utorrent i will go and try to move or rename the file just to get unlocker assistant to promt me for action. it will say that file is being locked by xxxxxx.exe and then give me the option of unlocking, moving or Killing the offending process or deleting the file. thesisko99 Posted August 6, 2007 Report Share Posted August 6, 2007 Well there is your likely culprit right there... mcafee... it sometimes causes issues with internet connection... I bet if you remove mcafee using the removal tool mcpr.exe that it may fix your problem... then you can reinstall it. Something about a specific update to mcafee that has messed it up. And don't even bother just trying to disable it... cause the issue likely will continue... only a full uninstall using the utility above will stop mcafee from affecting the system... If this does not fix it let me know... otherwise there is likely something going on with your connection cause nothing else there in the list is out of the ordinary... torby Posted August 7, 2007 Report Share Posted August 7, 2007 Wow guys, you are GOOD!!It was the McAfee after all. But some strange things happened...Got rid of McAfee, restarted and... Utorrent started very sloooooow. Sign showed ´no connection´ and with portforwarding check it went red. But there wás down/upload movement.Put McAfee back, no restart and Utorrent started speeding! Up to 250 kB/s. But.. tried to check portforwarding (sign was green) and... no Internet connection.So It does not seem possible to open Utorrent and just any Internet page at the same time. Figure still something is wrong but what???btw microsoft firewall is off, mcafee is on, router firewall is on, internet safe modus is off. does not seem to matter if any of them is on/off as long port/program is known.Oh, and since I killed Roxio there is a warning at start up:microsoft visual c++ runtime library runtime error Program C/program file... (so it does not show which program) Got any clues on this and/or the Internet/Utorrent sharing?Ultima, the microsoft search indexer is still there... did not know how to undo it so started with McAfee and its working out.
