HoochieMamma
Hi everyone, after going to 1.2.1 I seem to have some CPU usage problems wich causes my mouse to lag quite badly.I have KAV 2006 beta + Peerguadian 2 + uTorrent running and uTorrent seems to eat around 30-40% and somtimes spikes to 70-90%.If I disable KAV + Peerguardian 2 it doesn't make a difference, so it's a problem with uTorrent somewhere. I haven't changed any settings and kept pretty much everything on default.Anyone else having such a problem? Or know anything that could rectify it? I only have 3 torrents running and this was never a problem for me before.
snake
yep - I had the same problem, I just knocked back the number of upload slots per torrent and the number of Global connections....knock this back until your PC works smoothly. I still get the occasional minute where the mouse would just not move and the PC crunches - but this is only rare since I changed to these settings. HoochieMamma
Ahh ok, this must be because of this in the new version:- Change: Tweaked peer upload queue size. What is the size in 1.2?
chaosblade
No problems here with KAV running (though the older one, not 2006 beta).
HoochieMamma
Anyone know what the settings for upload queue size where before they got tweaked? I still seem to get this CPU/HDD lagging every 3-4 sec's
1c3d0g
You mean "Number of Upload Slots per Torrent"? If so, the default is 4.
HoochieMamma
Nah it's not that, The "Number of Upload Slots per Torrent" was always 4 wasn't it?, 1.2.1 has a change called:- Change: Tweaked peer upload queue size. And I would like to know wat it was before they changed it. 1c3d0g
I think it's something that was tweaked internally (not meant to be changed by the user), but I'm not sure... :|
ludde
Yes it's just something internal.
Grim
My computer is crunching and lags for about 5 to 10 seconds every couple of minutes. The thing is it only happens when the file I download is bigger then one giga.
1c3d0g
It's to be expected. Hard disks are slow creatures by nature, there's only so many things you can tweak & optimize before reality sets in and you realize that laws of physics have their limit. Once this limit is reached there's really not a lot you can do, other than switch to solid state storage for a little more boost or hope that one of those many new technologies (holographic disks etc.) make their way to a PC dealer near you soon... :/
HoochieMamma
Oh ok, so it's normal for my mouse to lag every 3-4 sec when writing to 1-2 >1.3GB files? Never noticed it before, could have been becasue I never had more then 1 large torrent going at one time though.
Firon
That's not normal. Check if your hard drive is set to DMA access, and not PIO.Just look for your IDE controller in the Device Manager and check the properties. You'll probably see one of them set to PIO mode if you're experiencing problems like that...
HoochieMamma
Nope, always been DMA. Could be because it's an anceint HDD and only 5200rpm?
Firon
Did you check it to make sure? Windows CAN and does set it back to PIO automatically if it has more than 5 CRC errors. It's also equally possible that the HD is just slow and doesn't support more than like ATA/66 or whatever, since you said it's ancient
HoochieMamma
Yeah, it was DMA. I THINK it may have something to do with Peerguardian 2 and the fact it has to go though so many UDP packets because of the DHT. As I noticed the lag since 1.2. Not 100% sure though. Firon
Well, I suppose you could try disabling it and seeing if it makes a difference. :/
HoochieMamma
Hmm i'll have to do that.
Firon
It's pretty easy to disable, just open the GUI and click "Disable."
