saralabhai
I was wondering if it is possible to download the same file from two different torrents uploaded by different people? Can I open these two torrents using uTorrent and try downloading this file at the same time, to the same location in my hard disk? Will really appreciate if someone could answer.... DreadWingKnight
If you try to download 2 different torrents for the same file to the same location, they will overwrite each other and interfere with the downloads. If the two torrents are identical other than the announce URLs, then adding the second torrent will prompt to add the additional urls. saralabhai
Thank you so much DreadWingKnight! I could verify what you said. Even though the total download was faster, the total percentage of the file downloaded was a little chaotic. I just wanted to eliminate this possibility as a faster means of download. Honeyfrog
If you try to download 2 different torrents for the same file to the same location, they will overwrite each other and interfere with the downloads.Even if everything went smooth (i.e., no errors from simultaneous write attempts), it still wouldn't work because two instances of a bittorrent client wouldn't know what the other was doing -- each would still assume that certain pieces of a pre-allocated file are unreceived, and continue to request them. Now this trick might* work in a torrents containing multiple identical files; you just mark some do-not-download in one client, and the rest do-not-download in the other. (*The clients might still trip over each regarding file-spanning pieces saved as PART files.)
ciper
How can you be sure the files have the same contents if they are two different torrents? I don't understand the motivation.
saralabhai
Ciper, sometimes when people upload the TV series, they have different combinations. I came across the torrent downloads for the famous TV Serial "The X-files" where the uploader uploaded once again the same contents with several extras. The first upload and the second upload had about 75% of the files same.
ciper
That isnt what you said in the first thread. Downloading the extra files at a later date when the first torrent is finished is different from using two torrents to download the files at the same time.If what you say is true (75 percent the same) you should be able to copy those files into the directory that the new torrent is saving into while the client is not running and when it starts up you will already be 75 percent complete
surrepfun
i think what hes asking is can he down load the same torrent from lets say 2 different tracker so long as the torrent is the same would leeching it from 2 different trackers make the download of that torrent faster and is it possible
NoOneButMe
You can use pre-existing data in multiple torrent's so long as it's the same. If it's different, it'll overwrite it and corrupt the data assuming the filenames are the same.
NetTrodon
I have the same problem. Both files are from the same website (the first was downloaded long time ago, the second is from today 2007-NOV-2), have the same files. I see that if you change the size of piece (this also change the total of pieces) uTorrent consider another torrent and don't propmpt you to add new trackers, but I'm not sure yet.I'm using uTorrent 1.7.4 (build 4482).
