Timwi
If I change one of the settings under "Advanced" in the Preferences window, I expect to be able to apply the changes by clicking the "Apply" button. However, that button is greyed out, even after I have changed the value of an option. This appears to apply both to options with a textbox and to options with radio buttons.
Ultima
That's because advanced settings take effect changed immediately after you press "Set." I agree, though; it can be confusing.
Timwi
In that case you have a slightly more serious bug in the "Cancel" button, because if what you say is true, the "Cancel" button won't actually cancel the changes I made. Firon
Yes, all changes are immediate (save for text input ones, which need Set to be pressed). Apply and Cancel do nothing for Advanced.
Timwi
I am unsure whether your posting is explaining to me what I already know, or acknowledging that it is a bug that needs to be fixed.

Firon
It's not a bug, just... not the best design. I suppose it could be changed.
Timwi
Gosh, I am amazed at the developers in this community. How bad does a problem have to get before it qualifies as a bug? In real software development, anything that causes a problem or unexpected behaviour is a bug.
Firon
Except that the behavior was intentionally coded this way. That's not a bug, it's just not good design. They aren't the same.
Timwi
They are absolutely the same. To the user. Which is what counts.Whether or not it was intentional has absolutely no bearing on the user and on the fact that it is causing a problem. The user sees a "Cancel" button that doesn't actually cancel anything, and quite rightly considers that a bug.
