tsume Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 I mirrored the above posted RT61 driver on my server. Additionally, Ralink sent me an even newer driver for RT2860. The driver I had previously posted had issues coming out of suspend, this new driver fixes that. The link I have posted above will stay for RT2860 driver 2.0.4.0 in case anyone wants that version.EDIT: SEE MY POST LATER IN THREAD FOR DRIVERS!
JasyYouhou Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Hi there ! Sorry for the up, but i've got that problem with Ralink too. When I shut down the Ralink utility, it worked, but now, it seems not to work. The problem is that I'm not able to uninstall the Ralink utility program without removing the driver of my wireless card.Thanks,Youyou...N.B. : RalinkTech don't want to send me the fixed drivers (they don't answer).
jewelisheaven Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Youyou, find out your driver CHIPSET, and see if they match the two copies being mirrored currently
JasyYouhou Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Hi there ! Thanks for awnser !I don't know how do I install this (RT61).. If I choose this .inf(s) drivers (manually selecting drivers), nothing appends, and it selects me "Conceptonic 54g" of Ralink or something like that, the first of the list. Must I install the Ralink's version and then, patch with tsume's version ? If it's something like that, where must I extract the trume's archive ?Thanks,Youyouuuuu
jewelisheaven Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 OK so you have a RALink card right? On it, what does the work, is the CHIPSET. These drivers that wolfness host are for ONLY the RT61 and RT2860 chipsets. If you install these drivers without having the right card... I'm not sure if anything bad will happen, but I am almost positive it will stop your current card from working. The main reason these drivers are here is because I guess previously, there were problems with RALink drivers and > 3 GiB of RAM in your machine. So, if you have the chipsets listed, download them and install them. If you don't have the chipsets... do at your own risk.I have no idea but I'd imagine Conceptionic is one of the models they offer with that chipset. As far as installation of the drivers, you unpack the RAR, then right click on the INF and "Install".
JasyYouhou Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Hey ! Thanks !My ralink chipset is RT2561 (everest). I'm not attentive. I don't know why I thought that my chipset was RT61.The right click, install method don't work (with any inf) because I get an error message like "This inf file don't support this installation method" (translated, so it can be different (very very different )).My computer have 4GiB of RAM installed (so, vista64).regards,YouhouEdit : Hey !RT2561 appears to be RT61 (see the RalinkTech website). I reinstalled the ralink utility and then, I patched the "driver" folder (in %programfiles%, the files presents in this folder where exactely the same as the files in tsume's archive). I shutted down the ralink utility, and I lauched µTorrent. It always won't works...Youyou
sm0ker Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Hey!1. I`m running windows vista 64, 2 gigs of ram, 6000+proc2. 1st i have installed utorrent 1.8 and at high speeds (10mb/s) my memory went crazy from 50% to 99% ..uninstalled 1.8 installed 1.7 and had the same problem..at slower speeds nothing happens..i have disabled/uninstalled everything in my pc..including antivirus.. but i have the same problem..when using other clients i have no problem...but the speed is lower...and i dont like them.. plz help..thx in advance
Firon Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Go back to 1.8 and bypass the windows system cache in the disk cache options. Just writes only should do. It's Windows being lame (and your disks not writing fast enough). Enabling that option will solve the problem, though it may drop speeds.
JFM Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Hi. My hardware:Motherboard: Asus P5ECPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHzGpu: 2 x Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 *Crossfire*RAM: OCZ DDR2 PC2-8000 8GB Platinum Edition 4x2048MB 1000MHzWLAN: Edimax EW-7728In (It is RT2860 chipset, isn't it?)OS: Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x64Utorrent freezes my hole computer 2-4 minutes after I start it. The only thing i can do is to restart my computer. When I tried with only 2GB ram everything was fine. HELP...
SneakySqueak Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Hello-I have been using uTorrent since beta, and have only recently upgraded to Vista and run into the freezing issue... The disc cache fix works, but absolutely kills my download speeds-- I look forward to the day when a fully Vista-compatible version is released.
renaissance247 Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 I have only read the first page, so forgive me if my problem has already been discussed. But my problem is not like the ones on the first page.I have run uTorrent 1.8 on both Vista and XP Pro and the same thing happens. And it only happens with 1.8 not any of the 1.7's. The problem is that, the whole computer doesn't freeze, but just the internet does. I mean, I can click on stuff on the page I'm currently on, and type in addresses just fine, but nothing will ever load. And after about 20 or 30 minutes of trying to load and getting to about 1% loaded, it'll show a "could not load page" error.I've tried this on IE6 (XP Pro), IE7 (XP Pro and Vista), IE8 (Vista), Firefox 2 (XP Pro), Firefox 3 (XP Pro and Vista) and the newest version of Opera on both systems just to see what would happen. And the same thing happens. I can still do anything else on the computer; look through my documents, type on MS Word, turn on and play a game, anything. Just not use the internet. If I leave the computer alone, it'll unfreeze the internet in a couple of hours (if I shut off uTorrent for those couple hours), but if I restart I have to wait about 10 minutes for the internet to "refresh" because restarting won't immediately fix the problem.I don't have Hijackthis nor will I get it (I've experienced problems/slowdown with it in the past) so I cannot create a list like others have, but I assure you there's no conflict with anything on my systems. I'm not tech-savy so I don't use anything that would conflict. Currently my antivirus is BitDefender Internet Security 2009 on Vista and Norton Internet Security 2008 on XP Pro but I have tried others on both systems (Kaspersky 2009, Trend Micro 2008, ZoneAlarm Antivirus with Firewall, etc.) and had the same result with uTorrent running.I think it's a bug in the program but that's just what I think. If the developers could look into making 1.8.x with some sort of thing that'll negate the freeze bugs, that would be great. But I doubt they'll be able to know exactly what's wrong with it to be able to fix it. I just thought I'd make everyone aware of it.EDIT: While my internet is frozen, uTorrent still runs my downloads quite speedy, so it's just freezing the browsers, not the internet in general. And I only have 1GB of RAM on both computers, so maybe the new uTorrent is just a RAM Eater. To avoid the problem I usually just turn it on when I'm ready for bed then when I wake up I restart my computer while getting dressed and everything so I don't have to wait for the 10 minute refresh thing. Just thought I'd mention it.EDIT 2: I actually went and read through some of the other stuff after I posted and I tried the disk cache thing, and it's working so far. My download speeds have been down lately because of my multi-tasking habit online and with Yahoo Messenger, so it's not really a big difference. Sorry for my long post, I should have read through things, but thanks so much for the help.
Switeck Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 ZoneAlarm Antivirus with Firewall is known to be a disaster.Process Explorer would also show some of the problems' causes...such as possibly what programs are interfering with uTorrent. If you haven't tried lowering half open max in uTorrent to 1-4, you should. That clears up many "internet freezes".
alexs3d2 Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Hellow guys... I am having the same freeze issue as may of you do and do have a RT61 card. The drivers posted above do kind of fix the issue with utorrent, although occasionally Windows, without utorrent running, will still freeze. This however only happens rarely and only after startup... I guess I should just be content with that, or just get myself a PCIe WLAN card with more modern drivers.Anyway... I wanted to say that officially these drivers, only support a fraction of the actual RT61-based cards out there. Example: I use D-Link AirPlus DWL-G510 Rev.C, which is RT61 based, but the card is not included in the INF, so the drivers will not install by themselves. If you have a similar problem, then there are 2 possible solutions:1. If you don't want to hamper with the INF file, just go to device manager and do the following: -Update your drivers -Let me pick from... -Have Disk -enter location of where the INF and SYS; press OK -Untick the "Show Compatible Hardware"Now you can select any of the cards named there and the drivers will install and work. Its just the strings are wrong and Windows may complain that the drivers are not designed for this hardware but just click to continue. D-Link's official drivers are the same as RALINK, without the extra strings in the INF for other MFGs and a renamed SYS file.2. If you would like the correct name to display in the drivers list etc. you may modify the INF and add the PCI ID of your device, as well as the name etc. This will break WHQL-signature and Windows will complain that this is unverified software but it will still load on Vista x64. This happens because the INF is only used for installation and the actual SYS file is not hampered with and retains the original digital signature needed by the Windows Driver Loader Service.PS: You can find the PCI_ID of your device in Device Manager: Your_Device>Details>Hardware IDs. Examine the INF and you should be able to figure out where and how to add the appropriate lines.
brushrop03 Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Anyone know where I can get the file that Tsume posted for the RT61? I can't find it online and Ralink isn't responding.
tsume Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Sorry for deleting the drivers from my server! They put the fixed RT286X series driver up and I assumed they had put the RT61 driver up too, so I deleted it from my server. I suppose I was wrong RT256X / RT266X / RT61Version 2.01.02.0000 for XP/Vista 64-bit editions only!http://www.wolfness.net/rt256x_rt266x_rt61_v2.01.02.0000.exeAlso there is another link hosted at mediafire on page 3.

brushrop03 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Thanks Tsume! Do I just copy these files into my Ralink folder and overwrite the other ones? And does it actually show up as Version 2.01.02.0000?
brushrop03 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Nevermind. I got it. So far so good If these driver's don't work for some people, what I did was limit the amount of maximum connections to 50 and my Vista never froze again after that. I can't remember where I got that fix from, but it definitely works, and my download speeds weren't affectededit: actually my Vista still hung up and I had to restart with the new drivers Im just going to get a new wireless card...
tragafantas Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Hi there!Same problem here:Vista 64 Ultimate6 GB RAM 800 Kingston ValueramConceptronic 54g Wireless PCI CardConceptronic has got drivers for Vista, v3.01.01 which are based on Ralink driver v2.0.3.0 (an old one!) It causes BSOD; I installed Ralink's v2.1.0.0 that seemed to work but when I upgraded my computer from 2 GB to 6GB troubles appeared. Utorrent freezes (the buggy driver, I mean) the computer. I've tried tsume's driver (v2.1.2.0) and it doesn't work for me. I've also used Viper753's, it doesn't freeze the computer but causes a BSOD. I've changed the vista half-open limit, utorrent settings and nothing seems to fix the problem. Any new idea? Is there any pci/usb adapter working in this scenario (WV64, >3GB RAM, utorrent)? Thanks.
moogly Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Did you control your new RAM bars you added ? Maybe they are bad installed in your computer, it can be a pbm.
tragafantas Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Yes, I checked them the whole night with memtest. No errors were found, besides when using a wired connection everything is fine.
GTHK Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Try contacting RaLink and Conceptronic for new drivers?
tragafantas Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Yes, Yesterday I wrote an email to them. I'm waiting for an answer.update:I've received some answers from Conceptronic:-In the first one they sent me the 3.00.04 driver for Windows XP x64. Obviously it doesn't work because it's not signed, so Vista x64 doesn't load it.-In the second one, they told me that it's an issue related to Ralink chipset (as we know!) and they have contacted them to fix the problem.I also wrote to Ralink, but no answer yet. (and not expected)So, Is there any pci/usb adapter working in with Vista 64 + >3GB RAM + utorrent)?
