ErikaAeternam Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Hi, I'm new so I'm sorry if I don't know what information to post- or if this has already been addressed (although I couldn't find the answer anywhere yet) but I'm having a very annoying problem.Since I moved my computer to a different house with Verizon Fios, I've been having trouble downloading anything without my whole computer freezing up (mouse won't move, nothing happens) and then I have to restart! It happens every single time I download anything. My ports are forwarded correctly, I get the green check mark on the bottom of the utorrent program and I get amazing speeds- minimum 200kbps, max 1mb/second. I checked the list thing about incompatible software and I don't have any of it- no ZoneAlarm, nothing- EXCEPT Avast antivirus- but I always turn that off and remove it from my system tray and processes in Windows task manager before I use utorrent. I have StyleXP also, but I don't use it anymore and that made no difference either.I didn't have this problem in my other apartment, where I use RCN and am locally connected via ethernet to the modem. I only started having this problem when I started using Fios. Now to be more specific: I'm using a D-Link wireless USB adapter on this computer...do you think that could be the problem? I saw the post about D-Link routers but does that apply to their wireless adapters as well???PLEASE someone help me, this is driving me nuts. I'm not running anything in my system processes- I turn everything unnecessary off and STILL my whole computer is bound to freeze when I use utorrent. It happens when I run utorrent and use Firefox or Internet EXplorer, when I run utorrent and play a game and EVEN when I run utorrent by itself and just leave it- IT STILL FREEZES my whole computer!!!Any ideas??Thanks so much in advance.EDIT: Here's my software list from HijackThis if it helps:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 7:33:25 PM, on 8/22/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16512)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exeC:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\ANI\ANIWZCS2 Service\ANIWZCSdS.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\iaantmon.exeC:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\nTune\nTuneService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.exeC:\Program Files\Alcohol Soft\Alcohol 120\StarWind\StarWindService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\IntelDH\Intel® Quick Resume Technology\ELService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\dllhost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exeC:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exeC:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero StartSmart\NeroStartSmart.exeC:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\nero.exeC:\Documents and Settings\Erika Hannah\Desktop\HiJackThis.exeR1 - Firon Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 USB adapters -can- be pretty problematic, so you may want to try something non-USB and see if that fixes your problem.
ErikaAeternam Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 Thanks for your response. The weird thing is, I used a Belkin USB adapter a few months back with this computer and we had Roadrunner, and uTorrent ran without a problem. Do you think the problem is just between usb adapters and Fios? I'd hate to have to buy a desktop networking card when I have a fairly expensive usb adapter already. I wish there was a workaround- maybe something in the settings to fix this??
