sburro69 Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Hi,When i use utorrent, after a while my PC goes into standby mode. Usually with the Bitcomet client downloads still continue and the cable modem lites keep flashing, however with every release of utorrent after my PC goes into standby mode, utorrent stops and all downloads and seeding stop..Does anyone have a similar problem? how is this fixed?
ben Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 If im correct, doesnt the computer write the current memory to the hard drive, and shut down? If this is true, i dont see how Bitcomet could possibly continue to work.. Please correct me if im wrong :/
winMX_67 Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 The whole internet shuts off..ive tried with AIM running and I get disconnected.
SledgeDG Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Imagine what happens in energy save mode (depending on you settings in BIOS)Screen turns off (no effect on µtorrent so far)CPU goes into energy savings mode (small effect on µtorrent since it doesn't neet much CPU powerHDD shuts down (BIG impact since you can't read or write data from/to a spun down drive)any questions??-DG
Firon Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Network devices and external peripherals usually shut off too.
sburro69 Posted November 26, 2005 Author Report Posted November 26, 2005 Bitcomet always keeps working in standby mode..even G3 Torrent never shut down in standby mode..i think that the problem could be that uTorrent is too low on CPU...
chaosblade Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Im really baffeled how does bitcomet keeps working with the CPU in energy saving mode and the HDD shutting down.
abbad0n Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Sheer conjecture since I've never used it, but could bitcomet be altering the power settings for windows so HD and CPU stay active? This is windows after all.
dcorban Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 Are you sure the computer is really going into standby? It sounds like it is just putting the monitor into standby, while the computer continues normally.
splintax Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 If im correct, doesnt the computer write the current memory to the hard drive, and shut down? If this is true, i dont see how Bitcomet could possibly continue to work.. Please correct me if im wrong :/That is hibernation, not standby, where the computer is fully powered down.Standby continues to operate the computer in a minimal power-consumption mode. It starts up again in about 5 seconds. I believe HDDs are spun down, monitor and all peripheral/input shut down (since the only thing that brings it out of standby mode is the power button, usually). When I go into standby, my wireless adapter gets disabled and I lose connection.. I imagine the same happens to you, I have no idea what's going on..
SledgeDG Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 In most BIOS chips you could set different levels of power savingSo as long as you leav CPU. HDD and NIC untouched there is no reason for it not to worksince all it effectvely does, is blancing out/shutting down the monitorThe usefulness of a setting like this is a different story tho-DG
sburro69 Posted November 28, 2005 Author Report Posted November 28, 2005 Actually...it is my monitor that goes into standby mode...with Bitcomet downloads and seeding continue while with Utorrent when my computer screen goes onto standby mode all downloads stop. I am using a Toshiba laptop.
