I use μTorrent 1.8 on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS a Debian\Linux OS running WINE v1.0. It works fine with a few very minor things not working the same as in Windows.

Ubuntu is free to anyone that wants it and will run on any x86 machine including laptops.

http://www.ubuntu.com/ | http://www.winehq.org.

FYI

Keep in mind not all x86 programs will work in WINE. WinAmp and Nero would not work. Most if not all games will not work. Those programs that work in WINE work just fine, Like uTorrent 1.8.

I managed to install and run uTorrent 1.8RC5 on OS X 10.5.4 with newest Darwine. It runs and downloads fine at full speed with my 100/100 line but when it starts uploading the whole thing craps out. When upload speed goes to about 200kt/s cpu usage goes to 100% full time and ui starts lagging alot. Its interesting that i can download 10MB/s fine but alot less upload stalls the whole client. Same problem with uTorrent 1.7.7 too.

Anybody have tips or solution?

I'm having problem with certain torrent that just wouldn't work no matter how many times I tried. Usually it would be of without any error when I first Start the torrent but then after a couple of seconds it sends out Error: Request not supported.

Is it just the one torrent? Do other torrents run ok and if yes do other torrents still work since this one started with this problem?

The fact that the .torrent started and has completed 27% would suggest that the .torrent file its self is working and µTorrent was working at some point

Are you running Windows XP? one of the errors was associated with the windows XP firewall.

Running Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Apparently it only happen to a certain torrent, maybe one or two, or maybe if the torrent is old (my assumption, to be honest I don't really know what's the main cause here). This doesn't happen when I switched to XP though, it will work fine no matter what. Btw most of newer torrent seems working nicely on WIne, but just this. Thanks for you reply though, I've already finished the download of the file on the screenshot.

Envoirment :

- Debian Etch (Stable)

- Wine 1.0

- utorrent 1.8

After upgrading to 1.8 utorrent is not able to listen on requested port.

Wine gives this:

WARNING: Trying to create a socket of type SOCK_RAW, this will fail unless you have special permissions.

Tested with http://www.utorrent.com/testport.php?port=MYPORT

and simple telnet from localhost and my remote boxes.

Neither work.

I do not have a firewall. Simple linux box.

Does anyone have some clue about this ?

Running wine & utorrent with administrator privileges is not an option for me.

Version 1.7 still works perfectly.

Hi!

I'm trying to install uTorrent with my Intel iMac. Some information:

Leopard 10.5.4

X11 installed and updated to 2.3.0 http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/

Darwine 1.1.4 installed http://thisismyinter.net/?p=47

When i use WineHelper to open utorrent.exe (1.8 stable) wine log displays following error message:

fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls"

err:module:attach_process_dlls "gdi32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting

Any help, please!?

- utorrent 1.8

- ubuntu hardy/debian etch (dedi)

[2008-09-29 17:13:58] xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:48690: [µTorrent 1.8 (34.5)]: Disconnect: Peer error: Error 10022

Anyone know why I getting peer error 10022 on some peers connecting. They will connect initially, speed will rise to around 1MB/s then they disconnect with that error. This continues until they have grabbed all the data.

I`ve tried ubuntu hardy/debian etchy with all versions of wine available, changed ports, flushed IP tables but still gives that error on some peers.

Seems to be only a linux/wine problem since i`ve never seen this error in windows.

Edit:

There`s been a fix applied to the latest version of wine to fix this error.

Use Git to obtain the latest source.

You'll need to set up a shell script to run Wine+µTorrent along with the path as the parameter, then set that shell script as the .torrent file handler. I was planning on creating such a script a while ago, but never got around to it (and can't right now because I'm too lazy to install Linux and/or a VM).

I wrote a quick guide for getting file associations to work right:

http://blog.shadypixel.com/fixing-utorrent-file-associations-in-linux/

After doing those steps, firefox should automatically offer to open .torrent files in utorrent and double clicking a .torrent will open utorrent. Also, utorrent will properly show up in the gnome menus (maybe kde too, but i haven't tested that).
